T-mobile Pulse - Android touch phone.

I have bluetooth off and wifi off all the time as they really drain it hard. With light usage (imo) i'm not getting a full day out of mine.

Download Advanced App Killer and stop apps when you are not using them. I get a day out of mine easy with web browsing. I turn down the screen brightness as well which probably helps.

There is an overclocking app which will let you underclock when the device is in standby, you probably need to root the device but thats pretty easy if you head over to modaco.

what about turning off the other option? the mobile data? you know when you press the power button, its the option right at the bottom.

I keep mobile data on, but run taskiller every time I finish with an app and run screen brightness at 35%. Gps/ wireless etc is off unless I specifically need it.

ditto.... 3 to 4 cycles you say... well I'll give it a wek more and see.....

For people that have this phone - what rating out of 5(or 10 if you wish:p) would you give it?
I'm seriously tempted to get one after the new year.My only experience of touch screens phone so far has been LG ones and they are poo.

Depends. Somethings make it a 10/10, screen is great, android very good, price was excellent when I got it. Also as just a gadget its really fun with an incredible amount of useful (and not so useful :p) apps.
However... my camera seems to be broken, only auto focussing for 1 day out of the 6 I've had it, and even then it was pretty rubbish quality and you have to hold it still for about a second after you take the picture or it will blur. And the battery needs to be charged at least once a day even during relatively light use with power saving options in mind (screen brightness 35%, screen off after 30 sec, no gps/ wifi/ bluetooth, and tasks killed when ever they are closed). Today for example it came off charge at about 7:30, I didn't use it at all till about 11 when I added some contacts, browsed the forum for a few minutes and watched a few youtube videos. After I sent 3 texts it is now back on charge at 23% battery.

If you can put up with the camera which is bad by anyones standards even if you get a 'good' one and the seemingly poor battery life it's great. If not I would look elsewhere.

I agree about the battery - it's very poor even when trying to be sensible. I might have to source an extra battery somewhere.

The phone itself is fantastic - great screen, android is excellent and the apps are very good too. Overall it's a top phone for such an excellent price.

Dun - Do yourself a favour and ring t mob. If the camera and battery are not right, why not get it sorted? If it's within 7 days, you can even send back and get a refund.

From the reviews I have read, the battery is supposed to be good.

I have a friend with the same phone with similar battery performance and a couple of friends with android htc devices which don't seem much better, its just the way they are it seems. As for phone cameras I use them once in a blue moon, and the front cam works fine for that, although I may still send it back once my month internet runs out and the stock shortages are sorted.
I don't want to give the wrong impression, I love the phone and it is one of the best 'toys' I've had for 100 notes, but I will be sticking to my 2630 for being a pure phone that just works day to day :)

Well... I would give it 7 out of 10. It's fairly difficult to get used to many things after using normal phone for many years. Some aspects require zen approach. Texting is one of those things. The interface in sms mode is very illogical compared to most phones, it wants you to enter phone number first and then type on a small field like it couldn't use full page. Phone book interface is too slow and odd not to be frustrating. On screen keyboard is actually very clunky and rather imprecise especially when used with cold hands and around edges of the screen, which is whereyourspacebuttonislocated. Text prediction requires getting used to, it's very different to Sony Ericsson's approach and lacks coloquialisms, so you have to watch it, otherwise your "imho" and other abbrev. become jibberish. Track ball is too slow in browser. None of which is this device specific and couldn't be fixed in os. Which is why 7 out of 10 imho.

Is there any way to custimize that awful "My Phonebook" button in the bottom left hand side of the home screen?

I've just ordered one of these.£126 including postage from ebay:D
Just gonna have to wait til I get it then get that unlock code for £12 from the link on this page:cool:

Well seeing a lot of bad rep for this phone i'll probably get a stop gap 'till something i really like comes out. The question then though is what...

Well my rating out of 10 would be 9.5 considering the price.

I spent all of yesterday rooting, unlocking, updating to latest custom rom and kernel which has compcache, A2SD, ext3/4, swapfile etc support, and the phone is just so slick to use now.

My camera works fine, I left the phone overnight last night and the battery indicator didn't even drop from maximum this morning, so no issues there for me. It's my first android phone and so far the whole experience has been excellent, easy to setup and some great apps from market place and the whole google integration is just great.

EDIT: As I have my phone rooted i've just installed an overclock widget from market place, this lets you underclock the cpu to 125mhz when the screen is off, so should prolong battery life even more...which seems fine anyway at least for me.

Are there any links anywhere that show you how to do the rooting and updating?Or is it best to leave it if you're a novice like myself?
And what is the widget called to underclock when the screen is off?

Its literally called overclock widget.

Rooting couldn't be easier, just takes a few seconds (it also allows loads of other apps like wifi tethering etc) all you do:

1. Plug your phone in to usb and turn it on holding vol down and red key.
2. Run the .bat on your pc you get from here: http://android.modaco.com/content/t...-1-4-rooting-the-pulse-introducing-superboot/

Job done.

This is incorporated in the new roms though, so if you want to update that you don't need to do the above. I personally would recommend updating to a more stock android rom, it gets rid of all the t-mob rubbish and has loads of speed tweaks (compcache, swap file) also allows you to install apps to sccard automatically with A2SD so you phone memory doesn't get clogged up.

See here for updating rom: http://android.modaco.com/content/t...8230-edition-featuring-wavesecure-stock-roms/
