Tailgating

I just usually stand on the brakes damn cats every where, plus its also funny as watching them turn the palest shade of white ever

Was being tailgated by a white van driver the other day while I was on my bike. I timed letting him through just as we were coming up to a speed camera. He hit the accelerator and was greeted with a nice flash from the camera. Oh how I grinned.

I just let them past, and they're usually toroids who don't know the road without a local to follow so I end up following them.

There was an article on the News recently which highlighted these "gangs" of organised crims who drive around in a couple of cars.

One goes in front of you, the other tailgates you. When they time it right, the one at the front slams the brakes on as the one at the rear is attempting to push you further forward, closer to the car ahead.

If a collision occurs, the guy in the front feigns serious injuries to the C-Spine and claims whiplash etc.

Then they make a fraudulent claim and pocket the cash.

Thats not the exact details, its probably online somewhere.

Apparently this carry on is common in other countries and now the reprobates have started doing it here.

Food for thought the next time someone is tailgating you.

Keep your eye on the road ahead and dont get too wrapped up in watching the rear view mirror. ;)

Yeah - make sure you have a good safe braking distance in front of you when being tailgated - gives you more time to break slower if something happens ahead.

Ignore them and set your mirror to anti dazzle if necessary. When you get to a safe place for them to over take slow down and put your left indicator on. Anyone who is willing purposefully cause an accident on a public road (slamming your breaks on) doesn’t deserve a driving licence imo.

Plus if you start acting up you are just going to make the person behind you angry.

i hate tailgators, i was driving through a 10mph zone at about 20, its next to flats and an industrial area and its speed limited due to forklifts etc popping out from blind spots.. stupid RR sport tail gating me and revving up so i slowed even more and then it went for the over take right were a forklift truck was.. dumb ass, i gave a hand gesture out the window as it went passed... followed it all the way home.. it was my neighbour hahah.. thatll teach them for being r'tarded at driving.

i was told in my driving lessons to slow down untill you are comfortable the car behind can stop, if they are that close its 5mph thats their problem not mine.

Sounds like your instructor was a bell end.

Slowing down is NOT THE ANSWER.

Make sure you have enough braking distance, YES.

But generally drive NORMALLY.

in CAPITALS
it is the answer.

resting foot on brake pedal also works... i dont mean braking.. just lighting the lights up.... lol

Just ignore them and carry on doing 60 (or whatever a safe speed is at the time).

Best advice imo.

If you are going the speed of the road you should do nothing more. The tailgater will either have to wait for a suitable place to safely overtake or just realise that you are abiding to the speed limit.

Slowing down or flashing fog lights will likely irritate said tailgater.

yeah, theres roadworks in a dual carriage way nearby, and being a newly passed driver I strictly stick to the limit of 30, quite a lot of traffic builds up behind me, as its only 1 lane during the roadworks.

You just have to try not to get intimidated...

Just make sure your not driving a 200 year old car that hasnt had its speedo calibrated in a century and you'll be fine.
