Taiwan and China thread.

China's population falls for the 2nd year in a row and is expected to continue falling indefinitely as babies born continues to decline at 5% per year

That is going to badly hurt them in the next 2 decades. They'll have to import young immigrants to make up for it or just kill off the elderly. Knowing how racist China can be I wouldn't be surprised if they went with the latter choice.

Will hurt them even more if they waste the lives of their young on trying to attack Taiwan, like Russia is doing.

War with Taiwan/US could be a any % speedrun to rapid population decline

In a hypothetical war, bombing the 3 gorges damn would turn the cities that 500 million people call home, into Venice
And yes dams are not off limits in a war, as seen quite recently in Ukraine where dams are frequently hit.

Taiwan by itself may not be able to beat China but it's best hope is trying to inflict as much damage as possible and there are a number of juicy targets, the biggest of which is this dam, because should it fall nearly 40% of China's population would lose everything - the single biggest destructive event in a war, far exceeding the damage from the atomic bombs in WW2

so your suggested genocide and ethnic cleansing here?

Eh? So, if China attempt to invade Taiwan, Taiwan aren't allowed to attack China in response?
China yes It's Civilian Population no

That's a war crime, You can not intentionally target a civilian population.

unless your the USA like when they use WP for "smoke" or whatever they claim when the whole world knows what WP is really for

I think you misunderstand what a war is. It's not a game. It's a fight for survival.

What kind of delusion makes you think a country can attack another, and the countrry being attacked must abide by any given rules of morality in it's defence.

6. Parties to a conflict and members of their armed forces do not have an unlimited choice of methods and means of warfare. It is prohibited to employ weapons or methods of warfare of a nature to cause unnecessary losses or excessive suffering.

7. Parties to a conflict shall at all times distinguish between the civilian population and combatants in order to spare civilian population and property. Neither the civilian population as such nor civilian persons shall be the object of attack. Attacks shall be directed solely against military objectives.

If Taiwan bombed that dam then China would simply leave a crater where Taiwan used to be, no one wins.

Rule 14. Launching an attack which may be expected to cause incidental loss of civilian life, injury to civilians, damage to civilian objects, or a combination thereof, which would be excessive in relation to the concrete and direct military advantage anticipated, is prohibited.

Who decides what's excessive? It's completely arbitrary considering the forced movement of millions in Gaza.

Don't disagree, I was just agreeing with the hypothetical outcome if someone did choose to bomb the Three Gorges Dam not making a statement on it's likelihood or desirability.
I'd imagine something like that would only be as as a result of something equally awful happening to Taiwan first.

The reality of any mutually assured destruction is that they only really 'work', if neither side ever dares forcing the other to use it.

All Taiwan needs to do is show capability that it could and then express the damn would be a primary target if China attempted anything.

A big stick basically :D
