Taiwan and China thread.

Xi is simply reinstating the Emperor and imperial court..

Modi seems to have improved his standing by appearing to level up the global position of India.. the reality is indian simply needs to believe in itself. Issue is the silk road is going to be difficult to dispel.

China moves one step closer to Mao's utopia

They are introducing a new law that bans all clothing that:

* hurts the feelings of the CCP and nation (actual translation lol)

* Is unpatriotic

Breaking this law results in 15 day in jail and a $700 fine.

Seperate to this, China is also considering banning tattoos in the country
The move would be a 5-10 day fine, with fine of 1000 to 3000 yuan. (£110-£330)
People who make and distribute the items could be detained for 10-15 days with a 5000 yuan fine.

It needs real clarification, as people are confused to what clothes that "hurt the feelings of the Chinese nation" are... If you're wearing anti-China clothing in China though, you probably shouldn't be there. :D

Does anyone watch vidoes by a fella called Peter Zeihan, or otherwise heard of him. At first glance he appears to be a legitimate informed voice on geopolitics.

Anyway he has been putting out some videos with fairly apocolyptic views on the Chinese economy and demographics that started popping up in my YouTube feed a few months ago.

Like today's for instance.

I've watched a few of his videos, it's interesting to hear his opinion but I don't really buy his view on China collapsing by the end of the decade. Seems like he plays to his audience and tells them what they want to hear.

Yeah, I feel cautious about the extent of his views. My problem is I am nowhere near informed enough in either depth or breadth to have a strongly based opposing view. I do however find his videos interesting and seemingly well informed.

There is too much riding on it these days both domestically and abroad, apocalyptic scenarios probably won't play out, probably. Historically these situations have often revolved around war but there aren't really possibilities there which work in China's favour. One somewhat alarming possibility is China profiting from the Russian/Ukraine war by throwing significant aid behind Russia's endeavours at a huge cost to Russia including potentially ceding territory to China if Russia gets desperate enough - enabling them to profit at the expense of Russia without having to go to war with Russia. Though there is a balance there with US/Western imposed sanctions if they go down that path.

2 submarines this year, how does China keep losing subs oh dear

There must be uncomfortable similarities between the corrupt putin military capability and what could be the reason for these failures (perhaps long after the cause)..
I did see someone pointing out aircraft carriers with large deck cracks too.. someone’s making a Yuan but it’s not the CCP..

Probably down to Chinese gear looking great on the outside, but on the inside it's built by corruption and the cheapest materials possible. And sometimes those materials aren't even materials, sometimes the steel is just chipboard painted to look like steel. And then if it actually is steel the measurements, such as the thickness, and the metallic composition is way off what was ordered.

China has never been tested in the modern world, i gather if it ever went to war for real it'll be a paper tiger like Russia turned out to be

That's possible.

China is definitely taking a long view, due to the luxury of no democracy. In the last seventy years, the country has gone from being a joke, both industrially and militarily, to something the US is treating as a credible threat.

China will continue to be patient, that's my guess.

But like Russia they can probably learn along the way

The weakest China will be is the early days and weeks and months of combat, after gaining experience it would evolve

China has a lot more gear than Russia and a ******** of factories that can be converted to ammo production, to defeat China it's best to do it within a month, because after the first month they will get stronger not weaker.

With Russia despite them evolving and making fewer mistakes, overall they have been getting weaker every month the war goes on for, but China is the one country who has a very good chance of getting stronger rather than weaker as the war drags on.

The best way to defeat China would be to defeat their navy and airforce and force them into a defensive bubble on the homeland - victory against China doesn't mean deposing the CCP or destroying all their military machines and factories, it will simply mean taking away any power projection they have, if they can't leave the mainland the war is effectively over

China is a voracious machine. If you stopped animal feed it’s population and economy would collapse. It must have a continuous resource import to remain operational.
It would switch all national assets to it’s war machine, starving the remainder of the population, forcing it to attempt to conquer it’s neighbours to maintain it’s resources.

I was reading that in the 90's the Chinese started mass planting of trees to alleviate flood concerns following several disasters. They planted an enormous amount of trees. They are currently ripping them up to plant crops apparently because they recognise their strategic weakness with regard to imported food.
