Taiwan and China thread.

I get that but how on earth does a crazy end up in power in modern times? I get that it's the reality but just how on earth does it happen. It just seems so....... well last century
Those types are the most motivated to get into power (it's all about ego, wealth and control over other people) and the most willing to lie and manipulate the system to their advantage. Just look at the majority of governments in the world, they are bad governments of that type while functioning democracy is rare and precious.

A good video to watch
One of China's goals, is to remove America's influence from east asia. War seems to be inevitable. The question is just when.

Its not just influence its control of the seas china has basically annexed the entire south china seas and claimed it as its own often to within only 12 miles or so of the coast of vietnam etc and whats at the bottom of that sphere... oh right Australia. If you think relations are bad with the US it ain't nothing on Australia to who they hurl insults at an almost weekly basis

Of course, if it does all kick off, she won't be the one getting shot at, so I'm not sure how cool it is really...

If it does "all kick off" - we are all likely getting shot, her included.

China has been the biggest threat to world peace for a number of years now and the West have been sleeping.

so 2023 Taiwan/WW3 ? or we hoping its 2022 around Christmas when most of Europe's gonna be freezing her ass off and its populous rioting on the streets to keep warm.....

I mean realistically they will have to make them move before Biden loses his next run for president....

Id say good bye to Taiwan now because thats one place that isnt going to surprise the world like Ukraine has.

Lmao China has suspended some communication and cooperation with the USA, that's big boo butthurt

cant see why the big ol US of A doesnt just stop buying from china and hurt them in the pocket, i know the us will hurt also but im sure they can buy from other places

I read a piece the other day explaining how if the USA really wants to give a big fu to China and the rest of the developing world, it just needs to take the dollar off the reserve currency list. Developing countries keep saying things like they hate buying oil in dollar, so the US dollar should just stop being a global reserve currency, give them what they want.

If the US did this, the value of the dollar would plummet overnight, this hurting US consumers in the short term but in the long term allowing the US to become more of a manufacturing powerhouse again by creating products for export with its low value dollar and screwing over other low value currency countries also trying to do manufacturing like China and India.

the main reason the US would not want to do this is it would cause short term pain, sharp pain, even though in the long run it would weaken its enemies and make the world more reliant on the US. The other reason is that because the dollar is currently a reserve currency, the US is much easier able to use its currency to force sanctions on other countries so curently the dollar is a weapon and it would no longer be a as much of a weapon if it wasn't a reserve currency

What does that mean? Surely it is up to other countries whether they keep dollars or not?

Due to what happened just after ww2, today many commodities are priced in US dollar, such as oil, gold and many others, making the USD the defacto global reserve currency. Because countries need to buy and trade these commodities in large quantities, they must hold large quantities of US dollar in their reserve and because they must hold this US dollars it's very easy for the US to punish a country by taking away their ability to use the USD they have. This gives the US lots of power with its currency but also significantly overvalues the currency compared to what its value would be under normal supply and demand forces.

What made this situation even more powerful for the US, is that because being a reserve currency makes it stable, many financial instruments are just trade in dollar as well - financial institutions commonly issue international debt in US dollars rather than their own country's currency

Trade goes both ways.

What will be interesting is the India-China conflicts. Although they're meant to be in the same BRICS relationship, China was flying planes over conflicted Indian airspace.
