Taiwan and China thread.

I feel for the people of Taiwan because even if they wanted to peacefully re-join China, it would effectively be putting them under communist rule, and I don't believe for a second that China would grant them autonomy without later retracting it when it suits them.

Yup :( might be some semblance of it at first but it would be eroded over time using increasingly dubious pretexts.
 
The economic blockade for the last 69 years isn’t about nukes.
Us and Cuba weren’t at war.

Anyways… are TIwan and China still at war aka Korea or just annoyed exes?

Indeed.

The romans found that the only way to control parts of an empire is to kill the leaders or make them administrators at which point they adhere to the empire or die. Unlike the Roman Empire, the Chinese empire doesn't really allow local identity, religions, etc. The romans sort of adopted and adjusted local traditions and beliefs (and the christian religion also did the same which is why you see yew trees as churches were built over sacred areas that originally had yew trees).

I think that the Cuban missile crisis was about nukes.

The US and Cuba were at an armed standoff. Cessation of hostilities only occurred under Obama.

Russia placed nukes in Cuba right on the doorstep of the US. Hence all the talk about buffer zones/countries. In the end you will have countries with nukes next to each other. They will have to lump it and learn to get along. If not then large portions of the maps get annihilated.
 
The people of Taiwan have been training and arming themselves for years now. They will put up resistance that's for sure.

I just find it completely alien that in this modern age countries like Russia or China could just decide that they want this or that country and they will just take it by force
