Taking stuff that isnt yours

If I find anything that might be worth something to somebody, I'll usually hand it in or track down the owner.

Though I did have quite an unrewarding experience when I found an expensive Blackberry coming back from town one night. Managed to get hold of the owner the next morning to arrange a pick up, to which their reply was "I'm a bit busy, can you drop it off to me?". Cheeky git.

They came to collect it eventually.

Exactly what I'd expect from a Blackberry user :p

Recently picked up an envelope with £250 in Tesco with "Josh's Party" written on it with loads of "kids" party food written on the back.

There was no way I would pocket that, handed it in.

pfft, i would have kept that and cut myself a slice of the birthday cake

Just :o

Exactly what mrk said tbh! You should have told him to go **** himself and sold the phone after that remark!

I've handed wallets (with cash) in to the police, as well as other valuables in the past. What goes around comes around and all that. I don't try and justify to myself that doing something which is seemingly innocuous is in fact ok when I know damn right it isn't. It's pretty clear what is right and wrong - I can't believe that you're able to justify such things to yourself, it's pretty sad. :(

I'm actually shocked at the amount of people that would pocket stuff. :( It really isn't a big effort to hand stuff in... no wonder society and moral values are slowly being erroded away. :/

I found a wallet (no cash inside) on the floor on a motorway services car park. There wasnt an address but inside were a few ID cards relating to Scotland etc, my guess was that it'd be a total grind for her to get all the way back down here for it, so I waited for the best part of an hour for her to return to the area. She looked at me like I was the scum of the earth when I handed it back to her, not even a word of thanks.

Still felt "right" though. OP is fairly scummy!

Whenever I find something like a Camera, Phone or anything really, I will keep it as it makes up for the things I have lost, even though it may not be the 'right' thing to do in other peoples eyes
Lost my £400 mobile phone in a Cinema about a year ago.....and someone handed it in...:)

Thank god not everyone is a thief like you

I've got to admit... I think more people would likely keep it than hand it in.

I know of several people who have had their phones lost or stolen, all with of course the home numbers and stuff in - to attempts to have them returned.

jakeke, I don't have a problem with what you did. Many posters on here only think in black and white only. Good or bad. Finding an ipod in a busy street is entirely different to finding a wallet with ID or a phone that can be traced back to the owner. Finding an ipod in say a café, you should hand it in. But on a busy street there's very little you can do. Either you leave it there and someone else will find it or you hand it in to the nearest shop who will end up keeping it themselves after no one comes back to claim it. Assuming it's a busy high street with hundreds of shops, the owner is not likely to go back to each one and ask.

I lost my camera once, it's my hard luck. I should've been more careful. There was no way to trace it to me and I'm not going to call every single police station in the town to find out if a camera had been handed in. Even if it is with the police it still doesn't guarantee it being returned to you if you speak to the wrong officer. I once had my car towed by the police because it was damaged (full tax, MOT and insurance) and they assumed it was stolen, smashed up and dumped outside my garage by joy riders. It took me 2 days and several unanswered phone calls to find out where it had gone and that was with a number plate which is easily traceable!

Don't let the OcUK do-gooder crowd get you down, they don't understand the grayness of the human condition.

Ding ding ding.

We have a new contender for "Alpha Loser" in the thread. Did you tell the person you gave it to that it was stolen property?

Do one you sad ****. Lost and Found is different to theft. Hand it in to the police indeed. Get off you horse.

Lol i just had to laugh at this as i missed it earlier . Its not like he stole it from the persons pocket is it, so your saying that if i drop my ipod on the floor on oxford street on Xmas eve and i come back hours later to find it missing i should be shocked and be branding everyone in the immediate area as possible theives and start searching them for something that i have "lost" through no ones fault but my own?

I'd keep it, I'm pretty immoral when it comes to finders/keepers - only when its actually lost, not "Found this in your bag its mine now."

I think there has to be a realistic expectation.

For example, if I drop a 5 pounds note on the floor and someone finds it I'm not going to exactly go looking for it or drop in on the police.

On the other hand, if it's my wallet, with my address and details then that's a different matter.

meh i have made my views quite clear earlier on, if i find something of reasonable value i would consider handing it in depending on the location, if i find a wallet/purse with small amount of money i would prob keep the money and hand in the said wallet purse, i'm not a criminal or thief as so many people hear are proclaiming people to be

Tbh we should all just take better care of our belongings but obviously we loose stuff from time to time and 99% of the time we accept it as being lost not "stolen"!

Yup, I completely agree

Can't be bothered reading the thread but can I assume that the OP has been reamed for being a filthy scrubber?

Yup he sure has.. but in his defense if he has lost a camera (depending on me anywhere especially if i was on holiday) id prob end up keeping on if it was in some random location where you know the owners never going to get it back but loosing a towel and knowingly taking someone else's is somewhat wrong in my book anyway.
