Some would disagree and say that the behaviour is inherent to them as people, and if they did not have the religion to justify their actions (to themselves, and others like them) then they would find another way to do so.

Much like the argument for taking away guns from the people in light of massacres in places such as America where gun ownership is high and very much a fact of life - if that person didn't have access to the gun, then they would have found a way to either access a gun in another way (because they were always going to kill people with a gun) or would find another way to inflict such harm.

My issue with that argument is that while it is possible that said person(s) may find a way to commit the acts in another way - by removing one of those justifications/tools/access, you make it harder and thus less likely that the event will happen at all. Same could be said of religion.

Without the enabler, would the person be able to act upon those feelings/thoughts or would they simply remain as such?

(note: I'm not saying that without religion that we'll all hold hands in eternal peace and hug trees, and nor am I ignoring the various other motivations for violence/horrible acts (which may even be inherent to human nature to an extent) but rather focusing on one point in that spectrum)

That's pretty much what they've done. They spill blood in the name of their 'God'. Peace through cleansing it would seem. When the West withdraws they will continue their Jihad. They won't rest until the world is theirs, which will most likely never happen so expect decades if not centuries of terrorist attacks.

I disagree, they use religion as an excuse to get their way, secondly Jihad is a defensive stand never an offensive one, I'm a muslim I know. Also they are not doing Jihad anyway, Jihad is only done when the religion is under threat, normally done when makkah is under attack. I dont support the Taliban or their actions in anyway, they are just a bunch of illiterate ****s who know nothing about their religion.

Let me put it simply, the Taliban dont like foreigners in their country, its been like this even in the soviet invasion. I know they are nutters but the world has to have them :(
 
'We' were no better during the crusades. I would wage that Christianity were responsible (or those that followed that religeon) for far worse atrocities. It's just there wasn't the media to expose it.

Yes of course they would. They would use another medium as their vehicle for their extremist views.

People like that will use whatever excuse they can. They don't give a damn about religion.
