A lot of houses have a tank in the loft for upstairs water thats could be manky whereas downstairs the water comes straight from the mains

Your original question might also mean you have a crap mains supply though. Ours is awful and is much better with a Brita filter.

Bathrooms taps are fed off the tank in the loft.

Kitchen tap is straight from the mains and apparently us Bath residents could bottle our tap water and sell it as Mineral water.....

Not really, I prefer kitchen tap water, however, my cat will not drink water from the kitchen tap, only the bathrooms.

I've always found it to taste better, but only at night when you really need a drink and you stumble into the bathroom to get a drink. That's the only time it tastes better.

Personally I drink a lot of bottled water though, sheerly as its handy having the bottle down the side of your bed constantly.

All depends on the house maybe? Some people might have flters and whatnot on thier bathroom taps. I personally perfer the kitchen as it's usually colder.

Upstairs is always colder than downstairs here and less cloudy.

It tastes exactly the same in my house whether it comes from the kitchen tap or the tap in the bathroom.

We don't have cold water tank, both are fed direct from the mains. However when we did have a tank, there's no way I'd drink from the bathroom tap.
