Tattoos....who has them?

I used to do the live for today thing and smoked for 20 years as a result.
That is one thing I wish I could change.
Aint that funny, I smoked for over 20yrs & completely wish I never, although I loved the things at the time.
Why does no-one ever listen to people who have been there & done that?

surely you can get them and cover them up, and not show people

I think you misunderstood neon.
Neon is saying he is not getting a tattoo to be trendy or to follow the crowd of act in a sheeplike manner but he is getting one simply because he likes them for his own reasons.

Tattoos do track trends though from the "love" "hate" knuckles, the borstal "cut along the dotted line" and homemade initials with compass and india ink, to the swallows on the neck right through to the once trendy celtic and now trendy black tribal designs. All very fashionable in their day.

Very few people are truly original most simply follow trends including the trend of appearing not to follow the trend or attempting to outweird everyone else.

Even high society Victorians had fascinations with tattoos and piercings including full body suits on women and men but never anything that showed with clothes on. Funny bunch they were.

there for my own reasons, and my own loves, same as why my gf got hers not to follow trends but the two things in here theme were lilys and butterflys which are her most fav things on the face of this earth, she got them to lokk at herself, and ill be getting mine for my own pleasure.

Because life only means something when you experience it for yourself.
I keep hearing that radio advert of the woman in her 30s/40s who is dying of cancer telling us how her 11 year old daughter picked the burial plot for when she dies.
If I had heard that at 20 I would have ignored it. Now it makes me think a lot.

Although I'm at the tender age of 21, I have to agree with VIRII. It's down to life experience and perspective.

Frankly, I think as a youth you have to do things you want to. A mistake is only a mistake if you learn nothing from it (insert cliches ad infinitum) and I really believe that as you grow, you gain a better perspective. I also believe that you will irrevocably loose some sight of the driving reasons behind what you did when you were younger.

I look back and laugh at how I was five years ago, and I'm sure I will again in five years time. I think half the fun of living is find out what you SHOULDN'T do :)

As to tattoos, and to bring this back on track. I've been considering one for about two years now, I'm going to have my design hennad on and keep it thus for a year or two. If I'm happy after that, I'll consider getting it done. I don't think it's wise to rush into such things, and considering how much I myself and others have seemed to change between their late teens and early twenties, I don't see any point in doing something so permanent unless I'm sure I'll always be glad I did it.

If you get a tattoo on the premise that "It's ok, they'll be able to remove them completely in a few years", you shouldn't be getting one in the first place.

Ant

I'd much rather regret something I did when I was younger when I'm sitting in a home, wearing adult nappies and counting my days than regret never doing it while I still could.

Life is for living; not for restricting what you want to do based on 'what if's.

Pretty much my view. I like to think I'll look back and think that I did what I did, when I did it, and that was the right thing for me to do then. I have one tattoo, and it's well hidden. ;) Had it for around 10ish years now and don't regret it one little bit but then it's not mahoosive or obvious so maybe that's part of it.

You didn't want any til you got with your fairly heavily tattooed girlfriend though...

i did you know i did, i spoke to you before i met her about them, and i thought why not go full whack and get tattooed all the way.

I have 3. A small flower on my left arm, a chinese symbol on my chest, and a fairy on my shoulder blade.

I saw a lovely fairy pic about 5 years ago and decided that if I ever had a baby girl I would have it done with her name and d.o.b. I had it done about 18 months ago, and I'm hoping that in novemberish time I'll be able to afford to have some more work done to it.

If you're undecided then dont do it. I had my chinese symbol done when I had to have my flower re-coloured. It was a spur of the moment thing and I regret it. I'd love to have another one done, but I have no idea what so itll not happen for at least a year.

That's funny, I once shagged a girl from lincoln with a flower on left arm and a chinese symbol. Don't remember the fairy. Not called Donna are you?!? :D

I want to know rougly how long this one should take to complete and if i will need more than a single sitting to get it done?

I am having it done in henna at the weekend to see what I feel about it and get an idea how it will look on me, then its decision time :)

Oh, and one more thing, how much do they hurt? Really? Some tell me its like aknife scraping you al over an others say it doesnt hurt much more than a pinch :/

someone told me its like getting a car key and scraping it across your skin and digging in constantly supposebly it soon starts to dumb.

I literally can't feel anything other than the machine vibrating unless its in a place where I can't watch...when it's like a dull ache.

Do you really want something which is already on the skin of another person?

As for time...Depends on the artist and you.

Well it doesnt bother me, its a design I have set my heart on, it will be covered up 99% of the time anyway.

The main reason for getting one is I have a few things in my mind I want to try before i die and having a tattoo is one of them :)
