Clearly Music and Box Office rolled into one, so I thought I would create a thread here.

I only know a few Taylor Swift songs, but the amount of hype and pre-sales for this are huge. Anyone here going to watch it? I've never been to the cinema to see a music show, but definitely in the last few years I have noticed some trailers for such things, even if it's an opera or classical concert shown on the big screen. I know there is a Beyonce one coming soon as well.

I did a bit of reading about the Taylor one. Only shown in cinemas on Thu/Fri/Sat/Sun to try to fill the screens and have a concert style feeling for every showing. Limited release for approximatley 4 weeks. 200 million USD in presales. Tickets cost 13.13 in local currency (her favourite number). I checked my 3 closest cinemas and all are already sold out for tonight, including the IMAX screen one!

I suspect this will be the number one film this weekend in the USA (and maybe beyond!).

Part of me want to go on the opening weekend for the "concert experience" but there is a HUGE part of me who detests people talking and making noise in a cinema. She is actively encouraging her fans to sing in the cinema....which I am sure they will (I won't).

I have also got tickets for the real thing (twice), so I won't be missing out not watching this.

I will probably get a ticket towards the end of the run, after I come back from holiday next week, late night, on a school night as to not hear someone else sing the songs in the cinema.

It's weird that it's released here before she's even toured here.

I know someone who's going tonight to see it at the cinema all excited with her daughters..... And have paid over £500 for 3 tickets for the real thing next year. Don't really understand the logic of seeing the show/spoiling it but yet still going next year at a cost of over £500

Seems strange.

Wasn't going to go to see her live again, due to cost and availability, but I saw it at local IMAX and it was really enjoyable. Apparently Odeon sold 2,000 tickets at a single cinema for the opening night. It'd be a superb show live and it's not like we don't know what's going to happen (songs/music) so there're no spoilers from my POV

Saw this advertised at our local cinema - not necessarily my cup of tea, but good to see more events like this being shown (which I guess is helping to support Cinemas)

I went and saw Metallica's M72 concert at the cinema earlier in the year - whilst clearly not the same atmosphere as being at the concert in person, was still a great experience, and had a good time chatting to some other fans before the show.

I'm curious as to how much that cost. The Taylor concerts are either 13.13 or 19.89 in local currencies, depending on the country with no special offers or pricing allowed. At 2h45m it's not that much longer than a normal movie but double the cost!

The closest I can think of is once watching the "up in smoke tour" on dvd/download. Didn't feel like a concert, watching at home but I did get to fast forward the songs/performances I didnt like.

Was £13 for an Adult ticket, and was around 2h30m

Normal movie prices are £7.95 for an Adult ticket at our cinema, so like you say around double the cost.

(Just checked and Taylor Swift is £13.13 for Child / £19.89 for an Adult at our local)

That's a very odd thing to do with the pricing. I checked my local Odeon and they do still have a £5 mark-up on the LieMax screen on top of the prices you mention.

It was £24.89 for IXMAX for me
Almost approaching cheap actual concert ticket prices!

I'm mostly surprised that she has the clout to dictate the prices, showing times, even change the cinema etiquette by allowing people to make noise ad sing in her showings. To manage that just for the USA would be impressive, but globally even more so.

Anyway, in the end it made number 1 in USA with $92 over the 1st weekend and another 30 mill around the world. Higher prices must have played a huge factor in that.

I've watched it now, last showing in my local Odeon. Only for 1 week it seems...but on a Sunday night, 8:15pm it was quite empty and it was quite a spectacle of a show. The almost 3hr running time really went by fast and right in the middle of the show was my favourite song and the 10min version too (in a slightly faster tempo i feel?). Some of the edits and camera angles were something else, not sure how they did it, whether it was cameras on wires or some invisible cameraman but I didn't spot any of them. It really put you in the concert, in angles that you will never see in person.

Some "eras" were much shorter than others, I guess that's where the cuts were because i felt the pace was quite fast, more faster tempo songs than the slower ones.

No idea if it’s the case here but it’s pretty common in concert films to get a lot of close up shots during rehearsal so as to not clutter the stage up for the actual shows, and then splice them together.

I think this was filmed over 3 shows in the same stadium, I was looking at clues such as where certain bits of her hair are stuck to her forehead due to sweat for continuity clues but it is very well done! I suspect they filmed 1 show with close up cameras and then another without so on the wide shots from that day you don't see a camera on stage because certain shots are definitely shot with a wide angle and not a telephoto.

It is all very well edited together, no pause really in between each era which I suspect there might be more in the real thing.

I just don't get the whole Taylor Swift thing. Every single song of hers has exactly the same 3 chord progression and her singing is like nails down a blackboard. Maybe I'm just getting old :p

As they say, all you need is "3 chords and the truth" then you can rule the world. :p

(I can already see the rebuttal coming a mile off....truth? you mean all her ex-bfs? lol)
