How do you enjoy yourself ?

Does you social life suffer without drink, what do you do for a night out ?

If you need to drink alcohol to enjoy yourself, you're doing it wrong.

My feelings entirely. I'll drink a bit if I'm at a party or social event, but only about once a month and never to excess. I've never actually been any more than tipsy and that's the way I intend to leave it. The things I enjoy (gaming, cinema, music) don't require alcohol by any means so its no loss to me.

I'd say I'm as close to it as possible, without quite being the whole way. The only time I drink is when I'm dragged out, or at birthdays/christmas/weddings/other celebrations, and most of the time even then I'll be constantly encouraged to drink more.

Doesn't bother me one bit.

I haven’t had a drink since October 2009, I still go out and have a good time. If anything my social life has improved because I’m still talking when everyone is beginning to flag. :D

For the guys that have gone tee total, how easy was it and did you do it gradually, go cold Turkey or was it case you have never been big drinkers ?

Yes and no. I stopped getting smashed every Saturday night about 2 or 3 years ago. Of course my social life suffers. But on the other hand - I'm missing standing in a pub, then a club where it's too noisy to hear any conversation watching people strut about, getting bumped by people, paying over the odds for poorly prepared drinks and then losing the next day and being ill for a further 2 days. Can it be done sober? No, because the drinking was to cover up the fact that the social life was bland and boring.

Sadly there's very little alternative where I live. The only social activity people seem to do at the weekend revolves around drinking as much as you can.

A few years ago I gave up drinking, which led to me not bothering going out anymore, which then led to me not bothering with my friends much. Now I have no friends. Other than the people I work with.
Now I drink at home, alone, or just with the GF.

"Not drinking ruins friendships" :(

When my friends go out I generally stick around for a few hours until people are starting to get properly drunk and then call it a day. People are still good fun when they're tipsy, it's when they start to get hammered that things go downhill. Thankfully my friends don't get hammered often, so it doesn't really affect my social life much.

I was never really a big drinker anyway but I was on medication that did not go well with alcohol consumption. I'm not on said drugs anymore but I still don't really drink. I save a packet. For the price of a few drinks I can buy a DVD or PC game which lasts much longer!

I still drink now, but very rarely. I should add that when I crack open a can now it tastes far, far better than when I drank regularly. It's almost magical how much better it is!
