Tempted to buy a PS3 and HDTV...

its more like a pc because it has an internet browser? forget the similarities in hardware and software then lol. its the (basic) broswer that doesnt support flash that counts.

right-o then :p

i dont think it is. and no a basic browser that doesnt support flash doesnt really count. the xb360 is built like a pc and uses similar api's. the ps3 is completely different.

apart from the lacking browser, how else is the ps3 more like a pc?

Well surely similarities in hardware dont matter too much, its the function that matters, and PS3 is more similar to a PC.
Which is my point.

It supports both Linux and full Internet browsing, something that the Xbox360 doesn't do but PC's do highly. Both machines can now grab media from sharing devices wirelessly too, so purely based on function, a PS3 is a lot more like a PC than an Xbox360 is.

Personally I'm firmly in the group of 'They are all consoles', but based on the comment above of selling an Xbox360 because 'it's too much like a PC' and keeping a Playstation3 is absurd.

As for not supporting flash, I don't understand? I can see You Tube on it, I thought that was flash?

what he means is in terms of games, I have said it before to others the 360 is the ex-PC gamers console with mostly fps, racing and the odd rts/3rd person action / shooter. Limited in the amount of tastes and genres it caters for and it has created a home for itself in these forums in ex pc gamer land ( aka consoles, games and x360 forums ) lol

The difference between a 720p and 1080p LCD is MUCH smaller than the difference between a 576i CRT and a 720p LCD

But this is very general, my Sony 40W2000 is very expensive, even for a 1080p LCD) but it does have excellent image quality (if you get one without clouds) and blacks are very black and not grey

So if you have a good 720p LCD that you are happy with I wouldn't get a 1080p LCD, but if you are not happy about your current one, go to a good HiFi store and look at some 1080p models (but ask for the remote and turn off all image enhancing crap first)

As opposed to the PS3?

Racing: Motorstorm, F1.
First Person: Oblivion, Call of Duty 3, Resistance: FoM

Then other than that all the titles are pretty much the same?

PS3, 360 and PC are pretty much going to have similar titles, because these are the genres that the hardcore gamer want. Ok there will be some exceptions PC has a large range of other titles, 360 has stuff like Viva Pinata and PS3 will have lots of kiddie games probably, but in the general sense the titles that sell for these two systems are shooters/RPG's and Driving games.

Can anyone advise me at all?

yes!

is there a big scene for PS3 yet?

as said before, not really yet, but then the 360 Live community carried on from the Xbox 1 which helped

Are the graphics going to look good on a HDTV at 32" @ 720p

I use it on a 26" at 720p and it looks superb!

Any better than what I currently have?

for movie playback definitely better, otherwise just different
Am I really missing out?

only for somegames, I only got a ps3 for games which might not come out on xbox, such as Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Resistance, so if that interests you then go for it, there are some good games on ps3 (plus I bought FFXII to play and even though its a ps2 game its still good!)

Is it going to be worth me spending £1000ish?

if you got it, do it!

where is the singstar games, Little Big Planet, the Buzz games. MS first party development is mostly fps and driving games, rares titles didn't sell on the 360 no matter how good they were. Sony is a lot better in appealing to different markets with its varied first party portfolio. Release titles are always aimed at the Hardcore hence the genres they fit into but by the end of the year sony will already have more variety in its software than ms after 2 years, look at the e3 conference how many shooters ?, and 1 buzz rip offf and viva pinata party game
