Temu

I really hate the way stuff on Amazon is becoming even more nakedly cheaply made and doesn't last, and Temu looks like a leap even further in that direction. Seems like if you have any inclination whatsoever to not fill the world with disposal plastic crap that breaks after less than 2 years, or to not fuel the flow of currency towards chinese factories producing stuff at the lowest possible cost for mostly non-essential consumerism then it should probably be totally avoided.

Would be interested to know if anyone wanted to change my mind on that based on what they've bought.

I use Aliexpress a lot.
Had one issue and it was sorted.
I usually buy cheap tat (ie cables).
But have spent up to 200 on there.

I don't bother with temu

My stuff has been good.
Best one is my flixtail pump.

I use it camping.
Its a powerbank, pump, camp light all in a tiny package. Well Worth it

Never been scammed from Amazon or Etsy.
I'm not doubting they obviously do come through for stuff, but as a first ever order staying away from the obvious " to cheap to be good rule" I don't see why I would go back. Also considering when I first provided proof from CS all I got was " how can we make this right"...Just give me a full refund then " I'm sorry we cannot see why we should do that as we have proof of delivery" blah blah blah.

You have a sample size of 1 and were unlucky.

Well I ordered a few bits. Nothing major, £30 worth of tat. Apparently I get loads of free stuff. I'll update if/when it arrives.

What annoys me the most however is that my Facebook feed is full of Temu ads, for a specific toolbox full of tools. The Facebook posts tell you how many comments there were, but they've all been deleted. Of course when I try and hunt that specific product down on Temu, it doesn't actually exist. Load of rubbish.

So false advertising with non-existent products, an app interface that makes me want to rip my eyeballs out, deleting comments on their Facebook ads. Off to a flying start then.

We'll see what turns up, if anything :D

The issue is that they sell SO MANY things that the cheap stuff often just floods the front page or the mainstream consciousness. They (Amazon, Aliexpress) both sell decent quality stuff. You just have to go into it knowing what you are looking for.

I bought my headphone dac amp and even a pair of headphones on Aliexpress. Saved 10% on the dac amp and saved about £80 on the headphones. It's the same item. Both items are made in China originally anyway.

I have also found a few real bargains, like my coffee scales that I've had for a year, originally were going to spend £180 on the Acaia but got something on Aliexpress for like £12 and it looks like the Acaia but like 7% of the cost. If you are into RC stuff, a lot of parts can be bought on Aliexpress for cheap.

USB-C cables that is 40gbps, 240w charging for £3 (Really nice quality braided too)
Apple Find My compatible card that is like the Airtag but only £6, I bought like 3 to track my family's check in suitcases because I didn't want to pay almost £80. It did the job perfectly.
I bought a little tech bag for £2,
A tablet sleeve for my mother for £1.50,
A magsafe phone ring holder for £5 (really nice strong magnet, solid metal),
Apple watch charger for £5
OLED monitor for £190
Lots of retro handhelds
Apple Car Play display for my car even for £60
And a lot more.

I use it now and then for things that are disposable and I don't need quality versions of for various reasons, i.e, paint brushes (hobby size), disposable gloves, craft knife blades, etc.
That said I use it like once a year.

Great for the cheap tat that High Street Retails add big margins on, not sure I'd buy anything over a tenner mind.

The ad popped up again, here it is:

Again, non-existent toolbox and deleted comments. Hmmm.

And you genuinely believed Royal Fail? It wouldn't take much effort to find hundreds of reviews/complaints/comments about failed deliveries from the royal mail.
Yes, they where able to provide proof no tracking had ever been made.
Look on reviews for the site, it seems to be a popular scam from them.

Is there anything actually unique about the products or service on Temu or is it just Aliexpress rebadged?

It's just the same stuff. I haven't checked but I am pretty certain the same people have shops in both platforms, that's all they are, platforms.
