Ten Commandments - changes to #8 . . .

Ha-ha. generally useless. charitys need all sorts of people, with all sorts of skills from all walks of live..
The problem I have with charities, is that generally, they are treating the symptoms and not the cause. This needs to be done, because the symptoms are awful, but what really needs to happen is to have the appropriate measures in place to prevent charity cases coming about.

I believe in societies responsibility to everyone that's a part of it. I do not see society subject to regional or national borders. I believe that everyone is a human being with equal rights and responsibilities, that should be offered the best that society can possibly offer them. Whenever you see a bum on the street, or a child in care, society has failed. You can pin responsibility for that individual case on to one individual person and say "look, they had an education, they had support - but they failed". Well, I don't believe it for one second. The huge majority of people aren't born "bad" or stupid or addicted to their own destruction. It's societies failure to recognise their individual needs and respond to them.

Until we address this, it's all a lost cause. Humanity as a civilization will not have truly succeeded until we stop seeing each other as enemies or un-equals.

Don't try worming your way out. You said you would do this and that. Then why aren't you doing it.

A lost cause  so all those people charity have helped to get back on their feet is worthless

Disgusting attitude.

I am not worming my way out. If someone comes to my door now and says "I need help", I would help them. I am not a charity worker, or Jesus sent from heaven to save humanity. What do you expect me to do? Dedicate my life to a lost cause? Because, really, that's what a charity is. This is why charities that have existed forever achieve nothing in the grand scheme of things. The numbers of homeless, the destitute, the depressed grow every day. The good that charities do is massively outdone by the horrors that society perpetuates and multiplies. Would the world be better without these charities? No, of course not. But don't pretend they have or are going to solve a single thing.

To call my attitude "disgusting" is a giant flare showing how you really aren't seeing beyond the length of your nose. Think about what's happening and think about possible solutions. None of these are happening right now, and the situation only gets worse.

I agree with that. But to call chairty work pointless is stupid. They do a lot of good work and many people who have been helped by charitys are very much thankful for it.

Charity work is not pointless, however it is a lost cause. Charities help people, and people need help (i.e. it has a point), but they will never solve the problems and will never achieve their goals (i.e. defeat is inevitable - a lost cause).

As a society we really need to think about what's important. To make it a purely clinical decision, arguably the maximum production from society will come when everyone is producing positively, and no-one is a burden.
