Tennis

I don't think we can assume anything at this point. I was predicting Murray - Nadal for the final. I'm hopeful that Murray will take the gold, but Del Potro definitely has a chance.

Great final between Monica Puig and Angelique Kerber. One set all. Some really good quality especially from Puig.

The game where Puig hit the net hard and it didn't just bounce but rolled along the net for like a foot or so before falling in the other half winning her the point was pretty amazing. I've never seen a ball hit a net and roll along it, she hit it fairly straight across the court so perpendicular to the net.... physics be crazy.

Congratulations to Puig. Puerto Rico's first Olympic gold medal. She played some fantastic tennis.

I saw her play at Wimbledon, where she lost to Johanna Konta in the first round. She looked like she had potential, but made quite a few errors. In this final though, she hit so many great winners and few errors that I could see. Amazing positive attacking play. Kerber's a very good player, but she was simply outclassed at times.

Amazing attacking play with deadly precision most of the time in that final set by Puig, great viewing, as someone who rarely watches tennis these days! Well deserved gold.

The final I predicted :)

No idea who wins though but Del Potro will at least improve on the Bronze he won in London.

Well done for predicting the final, will be interesting to see how both DP and Murray cope with a potential two extra sets (possibly Murray has slight advantage if it goes to 5 but only slight)

I won't mention the Murray 'crumbling' unpleasantness :p

Dont get me wrong, last 16 match and quarters Murray had to really fight, but today you cant accuse him of crumbling at all - he was in total control all match

I was referring to a comment PK made earlier in the thread - during Murray's quarter-final match with Steve Johnson when Murray was in a bit of trouble.

It was the game before that against Fognini :p

Any predictions for tonight? Honestly can't decide between the two. Would love another gold for Murray and GB but really like Del Potro and favour his aggressive hitting over the marathon rally brigade. Feel it could come down to how many winners vs unforced errors Del Potro produces.

Ah, so it was.

Yeah, it could well come down to that with Del Potro possibly wanting to finish the points as early as possible. Del Potro will come out all guns blazing but I think Murray will eventually get to grips with the serve and forehand and then his fitness will take him over the line.

So I'm going for a Murray win, possibly in five sets - rough couple of sets for Murray, with it then swinging his way. Here's hoping anyway :)

Looking forward to seeing if there'll be any needle between the two, so that could be significant.

I think one thing Murray needs to avoid at all costs are short balls to Del Potro's forehand. That shot is a weapon and he'll smash winners all day. If he can do that I'd favour Murray.

I think if Murray does win this, there'll probably be some difficult games where he looks like he's going out before he finds his mojo.
