Tennis

Surely Ostapenko can understand that she would be a better player if she lost some weight? The few points where Dart has managed to get her moving she just looks slow.

It's yet another reason that women should be able to play 5 sets in slams. I know it would cause scheduling issues, but maybe the first couple of rounds for men and women could be 3 sets and then 5 sets for both draws from 3rd round on.

So we have no hopes of a Brit winner this year WTF :mad::mad:

Why have we got worse? We should be getting better each year, not regressing!

It's such a stain on this celebrated tournament that there's no British players who can challenge for a win.

We seem to have a load of crocks right now. Raducanu obviously whose whole career post 2021 seems to have been play about 6 matches then be injured for 2 months. Now Jack Draper who was our brightest light on the mens side seems to have a more worrying arm problem that has gone on for like a year which when you're a tennis player doesn't look good for your long term career!

Oh poor Harriet :(

I thought Ostapenko was um, a bit chunky but wondered if she was that way by choice through strength training.

I didn't want to say anything earlier in case I offended someone but I was a bit shocked at Ostapenko, I thought she looked like pre weight loss Little Britain's Matt Lucas in a tennis skirt.

Welcome to British tennis pre Andy Murray.

You'll get used to it.
The end of the Henman era kind of overlapped with the beginning of the Murray one so we had a good 20 years where we had a player who was going to go deep into the 2nd week.

I remember the early-mid 90's though where Jeremy Bates making it to like Round 4 was headline news such was the derth of British tennis talent! Feels a bit like we're heading back to those times!

Brits dropping like flies. :o

Sinner taken to 5.
Yup, we’re just a bit meh at the moment across the board.

Sinner is such a weird one, he should be completely crushing these first two weeks of slams. Carlo being injured must be sitting there gutted, he’d have walked the FO and this. Could have won the GS if it wasn’t for the injury!

Is it lack of funding? Or hunger? Bit of both? I know they have improved the stuff in Stirling Uni for the tennis of the back of Andy but you don’t really hear anything else.

Hopefully we don’t have to wait another 70 odd years…. most likely be longer though
Djokovic is such a nob.
This, it’s just so cringe the way he still carries on.

I seem to recall when Henman got knocked out early doors Murray ended up going into week 2 and was the last remaining and it kind of kick started the passing of the bat.

Not sure how many games I'll be watching this year, but I've just caught up on Cam Norrie's game against Michael Zheng and it was quite disappointing.

It's a bit hard to stay optimistic, as British tennis is not doing great at the moment :(

The pickings were slim back then. I remember Buster Mottram being the great hope, but, playing in the era of Connors, Borg and McEnroe, it was never going to happen.

As for Henman, I always felt he received a lot of unfair criticism. He did the best he could with the level of ability he had, just, there were players on the circuit who were a level above him.

We have a lot of players to be fair. But with some of our best out due to injury, it's tough for the rest to compensate for that loss. If Draper and Raducanu can stay fit, the picture would look very different. Katie Boulter is getting there too and Cam Norrie can be good on his day. Some decent juniors coming through, that need time to cook. This tournament is already a big disappointment for British fans, but it's not like we have no players - they do exist, they just need to win a bit more!
