Tennis

Carlos is terrifying. It feels like when Federer came through - talent at the level that nobody has ever really seen before. He'll take the sport up another level as long as he has other players who can stay with him

They’ll be someone who turns up, always is. Look at Novak, he wasn’t fancied until later on, out of the blue in 2011 i think it was and just won 3 in a year.

It may even be someone thats on the tour at the moment.

Always love how genuine Alcaraz is and he’s a true sportsman too.

No, but he needs the competition, both to develop further and because watching him roll over people in straight sets isn't all that enjoyable

Sinner is his cryptonite I.E a bad match up for him and even that is very close. Possibly Rune on hard court. That’s about it.

The one thing Fed, Nadal, and Djokovic had was competition to keep them developing as players and keep their drive.

This is exactly why Nadal and Djokovic became so good, they had to keep improving to match and exceed Federer's level, who in turn continued to develop to compete with them and stay at the top of the game.

This. Not only do I think all of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic became the players they did because of the other two but the rivalry and competition between the 3 made tennis so good to watch. Djokovic has still been as good as he was 5+ years ago but these last few years, without Nadal and Federer challenging him has been pretty boring.

That's the first new winner of the Wimbledon Men's Singles since Andy in 2013. That's absolutely mad.

Also, looking down the list of past winners from the Open era is so interesting, you can almost see how it flowed from Connors, Borg, McEncroe/Connors, Becker/Edberg, Sampras/Agassi, Federer, Federer/Nadal/Djokovic

I just don't see it with Sinner. I might be proven wrong but I think he'll have a career as a nearly man. He may win a slam or two, but I don't think he'll touch Alcaraz.

Yeah I don't see Sinner being a multiple GS champion from what I've seen so far, but his game isn't a good match up fro Carlos as we saw at Wimbledon last year and Miami this year. They are usually close matches that could go either way.

super glad alcarez won, you would think the amount of stuff djokovic was won he would be more sportsmanlike, that racket hit was just childish, although in the heat of the moment the frustration can shine through

To be fair to him, he was and is very gracious in defeat at handshakes, and after matches, and like today, usually has praise for his opponents.

Yup. In a shocking turn of events, people are multifaceted and rarely absolute villains or absolute heroes.

Djokovic for instance has done more for equalising pay down the rankings than pretty much anyone else. He always speaks well, and clearly cares hugely about the sport.

I can largely overlook his on court antics - tennis is a sport and they're borne of gamesmanship and/or frustration, both of which are a part of sport.

I can't forgive his stance on certain things like vaccines, but unless somebody has done something heinous it's generally right to praise their good sides, criticise their bad sides, and accept what they are rather than pretending that people are perfect or awful.
