The optimist and Raducanu fan in me is looking at a semi final meeting with Gauff now the draw's opened up for her but every game's a bonus, win or lose now.

It's all about staying fit and healthy and getting more and more games under her belt to climb the rankings.

Edit: Just as I say that, she's apparently pulled out of the mixed doubles with a stiff wrist :(

Seems sensible to be honest, I was surprised she was going to play mixed doubles as it was as her fitness is iffy at the best of times so playing multiple extra games seemed a bit foolhardy.
Playing with one of her idols and a national icon, the only chance she will ever get to do that, was probably too much to turn down, even if she wanted to say no, buy an extra day's rest is the right decision for her career.

Yeah I guess that was it probably, if it hadn't been Andys last year she probably wouldn't have signed up for it.

They'd have ended up being late on today as well which also wouldn't be ideal. Maybe there was an element of hedging her bets on not being in the singles by this point.

o dear:

Andy Murray's Wimbledon career is over after Emma Raducanu pulled out of their planned appearance in the mixed doubles.

Former world number one Murray, 37, was due to play alongside his fellow Briton on Saturday evening at the All England Club.

Raducanu, 21, said she has "some stiffness" in her right wrist.

She moved into the fourth round of the women's singles with a dominant two-set win over Greek ninth seed Maria Sakkari on Friday.

"I have decided to make the very tough decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles," she said.

"I’m disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but I've got to take care."

Pretty poorly advised in my opinion. Should never have agreed to play with Murray.

Outside of the specialist mixed doubles is just a lark. Players often pull out if they have a deep singles run. It's mostly just to keep them busy if they get knocked out early, and a bit of a cash booster for the lower ranked players.

Of course this year there is the additional incentive of the Olympics, but that's a Micky mouse tournament and it won't be players choosing their partners but the team coach.

Another shock!

I won't watch novax tonight (can't stand him) but I can't remember if there is any play tomorrow?

Not sure Iga going out is the shock it's been made out to be. Putinseva gave her a tough time in Rome on the clay despite the scoreline. Iga is is only 'good' on grass not exceptional as she is on clay. She also struggles and big hitting players.

For example if she would have gone through, she would have played Ostapenko next round. 'Penko has a 4-0 head to against Iga.

In terms of Ons, she hasn't been on form for some time now. Shame as she's so likeable. She was playing better recently, but Svitolina (former WTA finals champion and former world #3), was really just playing all out. When a player is playing like that usually all you can do is wait for level to drop as it's often no possible to redline for whole match. Didn't happen for Ons though, who unfortunately made her own errors too.

Olympics is not a micky mouse tournament lol

Why do you believe it isn't? There're no ranking points available, it's only every four years, its a random surface chosen by which ever federation is running the tournament. There is nothing about it that gives it any prestige or importance in tennis IMO.

Just like some other minor tournaments you've got a number of top players skipping it. It is not the pinnacle or even near the pinnacle of tennis, just like it isn't for football, basketball or a host of popular spots.

There is prestige in winning a gold medal. Just ask Nadal, Djokovic, Murray etc etc etc. They all have taken part on it and treated it as if it was a grand slam.
