Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins - Doomed for success?

The tv series has ruined the plot already so i dont think another movie will make matters any worse.
T2 was good but should have had Arnie as the bad guy again, I mean, if i was sending a terminator back to help someone i care about, it would not look like the same guy that tried so hard to kill them in the first place???

It isn't the same terminator, it's a completely different one.

And why does a female terminator have to ugly? Surely Arnie and Rob patrick aren't exactly ugly mofo's.

I life the attractive female terminators.

For all those pulling appart Terminator plot holes. Lets be honest its the only thing that the films have been consistant with.

Terminator 1 started it when Arnie chased Reese and Connor out of the parking lot in the police car, and when he eventually crashed the car and Reese/Connor pulled up next to him. Instead of getting out of the car, walking over and applying the Vulcan death grip (or tearing her head off) he ran away. Now we all know for a fact, a terminator is lethal without any legs, can survive, explosions, small arms fire, large arms fire etc (as demonstrated at the end of T1).
So lets be honest there was no excuse for him to not complete his mission at that point. This whole story should have ended about 30 min into the first film.

IMO this new film will be a financial success and a critical failure.

I'm kind of lost when it comes to revival of terminator franchise. Original Terminator (1984) was teenage movie for those born in early seventies. Second terminator (1991) was a teenage movie for those born in late seventies and nice action flick for original terminator audience. Terminator 3 (2003) based its plot strongly on knowledge of the first two, was effectively a flop and failed to impress fans of both early terminator films. Note that by now, the original audience of Terminator franchise is AT LEAST 30 years old. For anyone else it's pretty much "that old robot movie with funny animations". The TV series, instead of rebooting franchise, like they did recently with Bond and Batman, continues where 2nd terminator left of, so the target audience should be 30something group, but is made into infantile teenage girl flick, setting precedense for anorexic, slightly dimm terminatress, with unusually small posture and munchkin face. Who on earth is this stuff for?

This will be another Halloween franchise - you'll have "ignore the previous two" continuations, series loosely based on and several, coincidenting remakes.

Nothing wrong with the First Highlander, but after that it went Rapidly down hill :(

It didn't go downhill, it jumped off a cliff after the first movie and continued from the bottom.

Loved the original Highlander, but the sequel was one of the worst I've seen.

Not watched the series though.

The TV series is worth watching, actually ran for 6 seasons, plus another for the Highlander:Raven spinoff.

Back to the point, has anyone seen the new trailer? I think this movie is going to be pretty amazing FX wise and bale should prop it up some. McG has mentioned it time and time again; this movie is all about the story so hopefully there should be a few surprises. .

Have to agree this film is starting to look like something special now.

The only questionable thing about the latest trailer was the background music... it was not dark enough for me. Only toward the end did the token "Terminator drums" start...

Always gets me excited! Although not as excited as when I saw the trailer for number 3! Shame the film wasn't up to standard in the end, but it was still quite good.

Agreed - The story also looks pretty interesting considering that 'the war' as we know has changed and there is also the appearance of Sam Worthington.

Really looking forward to this now, like many I thought this would be dire but it's looking like it could erase the shambles that was T3 and bring the franchise back on track.
