Terra Nova

I don't mind switching my brain off for 42 mins 51 seconds a week.

Watched parts 1&2 with fast wind (83mins) and that did deaden the pain. It was all just very predictable and goods kids telly. I can see this being watched for a couple more episodes and then disappearing into oblivion.

They haven't really established the technology level earth was at

I found it amusing when the vehicles make all these whizzo futuristic noises yet when the guy was hanging on underneath we get a good view of some ancient looking diff and leaf spring suspension. Like a Land Rover in drag :D

I'm usually the one to defend slightly ropey scifi purely because at least it is scifi and we don't really get that much - and what we do get we seem to slate too quickly. However, TN borders on indefensible.

Its cliche ridden, predictable, and nothing we've not seen before. But ill stick it out for now.

I'm revising my statement after veiwing the latest:

Its cliche ridden, predictable, and nothing we've not seen before. Do not want.

I don't have time for this, there's so much more, better TV to watch.

Yup, I mean, despite earth being in the future and being in trouble, nothing frankly till he used a laser to escape I think had any hint of "future technology", then nothing more till the other side, even then there wasn't much of anything, just a couple sonic weapons.

THen randomly in the third ep theres a magical chemical synthesising device(that I don't think you actually see) to magically make exactly what they need.

Because of, how I saw the first 3 eps, when I caught a bit on actual tv, some of the awful CGI was far more apparent on a 40" screen, when the main guy and the general type dude went up the mountain then saw the cars heading to the camp from a distance, lol, it looked completely awful, zoomed in on the two cars it looked insanely low res cars on a very very low res crap crap background, moving so badly.

Think I might quit it and watch Charlie Jade again, so so so much better.

Show seems ok if you take it for what it is, could have been much more interesting if they did it in the style of lost taking people from present day instead, adding a lot more mystery but believable scifi, more plot direction and no kids.

This puzzled me a bit, the commander fella (I'm bad with names) mentioned that he was first through the portal and those following only followed a short time later but for him it was 108days so some sort of time dilation.

Rewind to the start of the show and hero dad runs through (names again) minutes after the last person through yet he arrives only minutes after the rest arrive. Surely that time dilation would have some effect her also?

Just watched episode 2,

I am amazed that today we can cut a tree down with a gattling gun and take down a helicopter at two miles with a single sniper shot, but in 100 years time several armed people are not even able to take down something little bigger than an elephant...

as someone stated earlier where they shooting rock salt???

and wtf is the "rebel" group doing camping so close, they have the WHOLE PLANET to settle....

still its sci-fi so i have to watch it...

Laser strapped to a TANK..... anyone got the directors phone number I need to give him a call...

So far I'm not impressed at all. They have nice shiny computer things but weapons research doesn't appear to have moved on much (or vehicles).

Things annoy me - why do weeds have to be giant? Oh I know because dinosaurs were big. Exactly how old is his wife mean't to be mid to late 40's?

I'm waiting for the episode where they get stranded and have to use bows & arrows and fire to survive :p

If they haven't introduced aliens by the end of this series I will be suprised. What won't suprise me if this is canned after 2 seasons at best.

Big disappointment for me...

Cliched and predictable storylines, cookie-cutter characters who are there only to drive the story, and generally terrible dialogue. Even the dinosaur effects aren't what I was expecting.

Such a shame - it's a great concept with plenty of potential. But instead we have this.

Terra Nova has a major case of split personality disorder. Half is a military dinosaur action movie (albeit a crap one). The other a middle class suburban soap. I watched the third episode in the hope it got better. Safe to say it's gotten even worse.

We enjoyed it.
HOWEVER.

In one scene the little girl says something like "this is the probe, we never found it, thats how we know we were creating a different timeline"

Then 10 minutes later they were talking about changing the future.

:-/

If you ignore that fairly huge piece of fail in the script, it was ok.

I didn't think that was a plot whole.

The terra nova group have been told they are on a different time line. The sixers and the terra nova leader know they aren't. That's why his son has painted all the rock painting equations as he's figuring out something or the other to do with the future.

I enjoyed it, but then I've seemed to of enjoyed most of the new series. That have been slated, but haven't enjoyed the older series that were raved about.
I also see it as few story lines left to tell, so you will get the same thing happening.
