Terrible Motoring Month :(

My car has cost a total of £155 this month for insurance and four tanks of petrol. Not too bad. :)

Service due next month in which I'll do myself.

For those that wanted pics. '97 4.4 840ci Sport.

Photo's were taken last year just after car was detailed as we were going to sell. Decided not to and I later decided to sell my E46 M3 instead :( Most enjoyable car I've ever owned.

I drive past an 8 series everyday (we pass each other pretty much at the same time every day) and they are really good looking cars. Just out of interest with all these silly niche cars like 5 and 3 series GT and proposed new 1 series with Z1 etc why is there no current 8 series?

Also no doubt a silly question but why no M7? Don't Merc make some made S class and Audi have or have had an S8?

Because you can buy a 760i/L which sounds quite tasty because:

The 6.0-litre (5.972cc) V12 engine features TwinPower Turbo technology. The high precision technology gives it a 400kW (544hp) power rating at 5,250rpm, along with 750Nm of thrust available from a lowly 1,500rpm. This torque is then delivered all the way up to 5,000rpm. Acceleration takes a brisk 4.6 seconds from standstill to 100km/h in both the short and long-wheelbase models. Top speed is limited to 250km/h.

No M car, but a serious piece of kit.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Month got worse :(

So, 2 new sessanta's on the front, drive 45 miles home, pull on to drive and get out of the car 'HIIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS'
What on earth? Coming from the back!
Pull a 2" screw out of the rear tyre, was almost all the way in :(
Bugger :(

ouch man that sux a puncture in a brand new tyre. I love 8 series bmws..

Got to say, i'm glad i don't have a modern car, looking at you guys' repair bills.. never had these costs when cars didnt have electronic driving aids, all these silly sensors and complexities..

not using a car at all at the mo..i just did a major service on the motorbike for £58. Which includes two new gaskets, and front/rear shoes.. lol :D

Where abouts on the tread? I just found one on my car, centre of tyre, should only cost £5-10 to repair.

About an inch in from the edge. it was half hanging out, and air was gushing out.
the screw went in right in groove, so couldnt block it up to leave to be repaired.
might get away with getting it off and repairing, but tbh i'd rather take the safe option and get a new tyre.

Skree - not one of the new ones, though i would prefer that it was, the other tyre on the rear has 10k or so on it.

4 weeks ago - New Miltek exhaust and new tyres all round - £1700
3 weeks ago - one tyre replaced as screw found in sidewall - £170
2 weeks ago - someone damaged one of the tailpipes on the new miltek, replaced - £140
this coming monday - booked in for an oil service, plus new pads, hoses & fluid as cooked the last set at last track day, may need discs skimming as well, also get geo done whilst at it. probably another £1000 :(

hopefully that should be it for a while!

yeah but TomO, most of your costs are from enjoying the car (and good job as well hehe) :p

what the hell?

from email confirmation:

2 of 2554018YVREDR99XL.SESSANTA[2] VREDESTEIN TYRES / CAR / VREDESTEIN ULTRAC SESSANTA - 255/40R18 99Y XL TL Total Price £308.00

99Y instead of 92Y? Whats the difference?
I'll be on the phone first thing in the morning!

I'm sure the 99/92 refers to the load index of the tyre

yeah i know, i put that as at first that was the only thing that i noticed was different... then i realised it was because it was the wrong tyre completely :p

I was thinking that.. TomO has spent, if you take the £1000 possible coming bill, more than i've ever spent on buying, then getting roadworthy and up to my standards any car except the lotus carlton and the s13 silvia(very modded), that i've ever had..in thirteen years of owning vehicles.. and that's just maintenance on a.. how many thousands of pounds car?

more money in just over a month in repairs..damn dudes, these performance cars are great and wonderful, wonderful cars but DAMN.. a lot of money to spend on fixing such a vehicle when i could build a £10,000 kit car that'd pwn it all over the place except in luggage carrying capability and pose value and only ever need bills like that if someone blew out the engine or trans and the owner wasn't the kind who'd just go to a scrapper and get another one then fit it..

Ain't criticising a bit, if thats what you want to spend your cash on, thats your business, nobody else's, and a good, very enjoyable way to spend your cash, and one i've done myself - very modified cars also have larger repair bills, notwithstanding the cost of mods.. but i'm getting older and my yorkshire genes look for the value for money and can't see it when there are faster, better looking (imo), better handling, more economical, and a lot cheaper to maintain/insure/fuel cars out there for a fraction of the purchase cost.. i love german metal and the faster bimmers in particular but

If you can afford it then why not? It's taken you this long to figure out that performance cars are not cheap?

As for the kit car thing, you could go even faster for cheaper with a superbike...
