I would expect between 2 and 4mbit at that distance, go find your main socket, take the 2 small screws out the front and plug the router into the test socket behind.
I have now plugged in to the test socket.
My internet speed is still exactly the same at 0.09 Mb/s. However my downstream in my router stats seems to have improved. Why would this not increase my internet speed?
Here are my current connection stats:

Takes time for the line profile to change.
It does show that somewhere, your internal wiring is at fault though, and because the problem in inside your property, BT will charge you to put it right.
Definitely a wiring problem.
Definitely a wiring problem.
Sorry to be a pain but can I just clarify please? This is a wiring problem because the test port has shown an increased downstream in the router stats? Is that correct. So correcting the wiring problem would help for the other telephone sockets but wouldn't improve anything beyond the test socket speeds. Test socket is best possible speeds yes?
What you said in your first paragraph is correct.
A useful site is Kitz that includes information about phone sockets.
You could try removing the ring wire trick if you need you extension phone sockets. Or maybe get a filtered ADSL face plate and isolate the ADSL signal to the master socket. There's a few brands around, but a popular one is considered a competitor so can't list it here.
Is 2meg not enough?
You're synced at 2.8mbps, give it a week or so and the BRAS will increase too.No, not really. I use the internet all day and some of the sites I need to access need quite a good connection. For example, I do my accounts online and the software has a lot of loading to do.
Also, I can imagine youtube videos etc would experience some trouble and downloading files will take a while.
That said if I was going to get 2Mb I would give it a go but it doesn't even look like I'm going to get that. I haven't checked today but all day yesterday was still 0.1Mb even in the test port.
I also checked the BT post code checker and it estimates 500kbps.
I'll see if it speeds up a bit but it ain't looking good.
