Terrible speeds on Entanet

Well I've about had it with Enta now, during weekends the service is dire <1mbs

I'm just wondering if anyone has migrated away from entanet recently, I'm looking at

fast.co.uk
vispa.com
icukhosting.co.uk

Does anyone know anything bad about them? Or anything good? Have you migrated to them recently? Are you one of their customers? Any advice appreciated

Service with Fast.co.uk has been fine for me. I joined early February after migrating away from O2 Access package. At the time I was deciding between Zen, ID Net, Newnet, and Fast.co.uk.

I’m not a big downloader, and no longer game on-line so I can’t state the service standard for those criteria. Although it has been mention on this forum that Fast.co.uk will allow for interleaving to be turned off.

Have phoned Fast.co.uk twice and there is no queue system. It’s dependant on how quickly the operator answers the phone. First time I phoned it was answered quickly, and second time probably around 10 rings. Both cases were after 17:00 on a week day. I prefer this method compared to being charged to listen to cheesy on-hold music.

With emails I have had quick replies, even when I sent one message around 23:00 during the weekend. But I imagine this is variable depending on who is covering those shifts. The replies have been concise, and I’ve never needed to send a second message on the same subject to get a better answer.

There has been one service drop out for me. I couldn’t access the internet, but was able to access Fast’s support page to view service status. Think it was resolved in under 2 hours, but service page didn’t list what the cause was. I wish the Service page would keep records of historical service outages, as this example disappeared off the list very soon after being remedied.

I don’t have a Fast.co.uk email account, as they didn’t have a web mail option at the time. You have to use a third party option or associate the account with something like Google Mail, etc.

The account page is too limited for me. You basically only access it while waiting for the service to go live, and then no need to view it ever again except for when payment card expires, maybe. It covers:
Edit contact details
Change password
My e-mail account (never used this)
My web space (never used this)
Order history
List payment details

The only other section I’ve seen is the Broadband Usage checker. But this doesn’t store previous monthly usage limits. If you forget to monitor this nearer each months end, you have to request the values from support.

I’m waiting for my one year with Fast.co.uk to pass, then might consider Newnet next. Just for the 12GB monthly limit and slightly cheaper price. But I’ve not regretted any time with Fast.co.uk apart from the price. If you leave in under a year I think you have to pay an administration fee when they issue a MAC. I knew of this before signing up, and was only considering moving for the slight money saving.

It's the weekends that seem to be worse on Enta now, but also sometimes just after tea time it can be just as bad. Thanks for the info on fast.co.uk

I would still like to see info on the others too.

That attenuation indicates that you live practically right next to an exchange :p

Also, why do you turn the router off? DSL services are meant to be connected all the time. Some ISPs will eventually interpret the disconnections as a sign of an unstable line and reduce the sync speed.

I just don't see the point of leaving the device on when not in use. Not had any issues in the few years of doing this. Also now that WPA has been hacked in a very short space of time using some "man-in-the-middle" method, I don't fancy leaving wireless on because of that. And the continual retardation/sterilisation of myself from all this air wave magic ;)

I tried a Netgear DG834Gv5 with a plan to leave the router on all the time, and simply turn wireless off using a button on the router. But the router was very sub par and didn't get the same sync speed as my DG834Gv2 or DG834GT. Also it had wireless issues and required a reboot to fix.

Edit: This location sure beats previous house. It wasn't even out in the sticks, but BT didn't both using telegraph poles. The phone line was just lose on the ground following along the hedgerow by the road. We used to joke about rabbits bonking on the line when the internet crawled along.

Speed's been a complete joke tonight. I haven't managed to load Speedtest.net to see how slow it is because it keeps timing out.

I've also lost a good 3000 kbps of my sync speed since these problems began and my noise margin hasn't moved an inch. I thought the sync speed dropped to increase stability but my line's stable and it's still dropping :(

You say your sync speed has dropped but SNR is the same? It isn't. The sync is dropping in order to reach the desired SNR, be it 6, 12 or 15db, your sync speed is based on that, the ISP has no effect over your SNR so you can't go blaming Enta for that one I'm afraid.

My sync speed a few weeks ago was 7392 kbps, my IP profile 6500 and my SNR between 6.5 and 8. It's now down to 4544 kbps, 4000 and my SNR's exactly the same. It dropped 1500 kbps over the weekend without my connection dropping out. Something's going badly wrong somewhere.

Your SNR isn't exactly the same though as it's relative to your sync speed, your line has a fault, plain and simple.

I would not recommend any one to come on to any enta re-seller right now
I have been with them for 3 years now , and the speed has gotten really poor
lately , on average the speed is sub 2meg most of the time , only time you get decent
speeds is at about 3 in the morning.
Enta clearly have not purchased enough bandwidth to deal with the demand
Their throttling system is in action most of the time these days :-(

From 3am up to tea time you can get a decent speed test result

Try it after 18:00 hours or later and its a different story
I sync at 9.7MBit , at about 20:00 hours I would average under 2MBit speeds

i think it's fair to say if people had a connection like yours, they wouldn't be complaining. isn't it obvious that this isn't the case for the majority of people posting in this thread?

Well is it because I'm on a business package? (Office 45), is it to do with the IPSC I'm on (Manchester which currently reads 83%), or are you heavy downloaders who have black marks and therefore affected by the Alt?
