Trial by jury is oversight of the judiciary by the people, which in turn is the next step in the process - Government passes laws, police enforce the law, the judge decides if there is anything to answer to.cleanbluesky said:Society does. Covert, unaccountable operations are just that - unaccountable. It's naive to assume that, even if in one situation, the ends justify the means, that it would continue to do so for an instant.
Which is why we have accountability and oversight - Because people lie, because they are self-serving, because there are motives often less than altruistic.
