Because if you stand by your allies politically (which is where they actually needed us) you look a tad hollow if you don't commit militarily when your allies do ...... it is not rocket science ;)

I think you'll understand what it is like when your relatives are in a war zone and not before:) Incidentally my Father fought in the Falklands (amongst other places) so I do know what it is like (personally) to have a loved one in the firing line.
Still as you mentioned it (in red no less lol) what do the parents of dead soldiers in afghanistan feel about things?

There has always been a threat of Al-Quaeda for a long time prior to the 1990 Gulf war and the post 9-11 Afghanistan invasion.

You think they created themselves because of that?

Terror camps were prolific in Afgahnistan, Iraq funded these.

So because we can't sort out every bad dictator in the world we should not attempt to sort out any?
By the same logic because we can't stop every crime we should not bother to stop any.
Because we can't save the life of every child we shouldn't bother trying to save any.

We should do all that we can to make the world a better place, just because we can't fix everything doesn't mean that we shouldn't do what we can though does it.

Shhhh. Next you'll be reminding him of Islamic threats to our country in the past long before all this, things like the embassy siege, the IRA having trianing camps in place slike Afghanistan, Libya giving them weapons and so on.

Don't rock his black and white world where we're at fault for everything and if only Israel would all kill themselves ther would be peace on earth for all men.
