Islamic terrorists do not loom Indian, they look middle eastern ;)

I know that they do not look Indian ... but tell that to whoever posted that ridiculous idea first. But Pakistani people dont look middle eastern either.

So can someone tell me if check-in baggage is scanned at all or not? What secuity measures are taken after they go off on the conveyor?

They undergo an awful lot of scrutiny via xray as a bare minimum.
Traditionally the way to blow up a plane would be to check your luggage in but not board the plane hence hold luggage was the luggage that really needed checking.
Suicide plane bombers are a relatively new problem.

It may seem racist (it's meant to be practical) but I can't understand why the powers that be didn't ban all people of "indian" appearance and all people with muslim names from flying for a few days.

There would have been virtually no delays, only a small section of travellers would have been inconvenienced instead of everybody, and innocent muslim travelers would hopefully have realised that these problems stem from within their section of the community and it would be in their best interests to assist in stopping this sort of radicalism in future

That would be called Islamaphobia, that would bring accusations of picking on muslims, that would be laboured as being racist. Similar cries were made over police stop and search policies.

24 People arrested so far, US news (ABC) say 5 still at large

Not a bad idea. The obvious flaw is that not all muslims are dark skinned.

We could always get around that by forcing muslims (of any skin colour) to wear some kind of identifying emblem, such as a golden crescent at all times.

That would be an excellent solution. Perhaps even part of a wider final one.

I can't quite remember but where any of the 7/7 bombers not of pakistani origin and were any of the failed suicide bombers a few weeks later not of pakistani origin?
Is there any evidence so far to suggest that an attack on UK soil or airports would not be carried out by a young british born male of pakistani origin?

Have there been any chinese female muslims suicide bombers for example?

Explosive Gel Was to Be Concealed in Sports Drink

August 10, 2006 1:56 PM

Richard Esposito Reports:

The suspected terror plotters arrested in Britain had planned to conceal their liquid or gel explosives inside a modified sports beverage drink container and trigger the device with the flash from a disposable camera.

ABC News has learned exclusively that the plotters planned to leave the top of the bottle sealed and filled with the original beverage but add a false bottom, filled with a liquid or gel explosive. The terrorists planned to dye the explosive mixture red to match the sports drink sealed in the top half of the container.

This, they thought, would ensure that they would be able to pass through security -- even if they were asked to unseal and drink the beverage.

The flash in a disposable camera has enough electrical power, they apparently believed, to set off the homemade explosive.

There are any number of homemade or modified commercial liquids that would have made effective explosives, with enough energy to damage or destroy a plane.
Five London Suspects Still at Large

August 10, 2006 1:30 PM

Brian Ross Reports:

Five of the suspected London terrorists are still at large and are being urgently hunted, according to U.S. sources who have been briefed on the airplane bombing plot.

Officials tell ABC News 24 people now have been taken into custody. Twenty-two are believed to be of Pakistani descent. One is Bangladeshi, and another is of Iranian descent, according to the officials.

One of the arrests was made in the northeastern London suburb of Walthamstow. Residents said police took away a man in his late 20s at 2 a.m. today. The neighbors said the man was British-born, with one parent who is Iranian and had recently become very religious.

Viasge being sarcastic? Perish the thought. I personally think that he is trying to be "clever" and "funny".

Do you not see camp x-ray as part of the problem, rather than part of the solution?

Which existed first? Camp X-Ray or british born muslims heading off to fight against Uk and US forces?

So you think its ok for a country to lock up its citizens without trial?

So you think it is OK to let very dangerous people walk free committing whatever acts of terror they want until such time as the trial is over?

It woudn't deter 'em, but it would certainly satisfy our lust for revenge and bloodshed.

Strange that their desire for bloodshed and revenge is "understandable" and yet if a non muslim desires revenge he's scum.

Anyway you wouldn't need a massive explosive - tear a hole in the side of an airliner at 30,000 feet and explosive decompression would take care of the rest :(

A tiny hole suffices. I have some altitude chambers in my lab for rapid decompression which is not as severe as explosive decompression.

Three of the failed bombers didn't look Pakistani to me. They looked of African origin to me. The one on the bus, the one jumping over the barriers, and the one with the NYC top.

And a big lolgasm to the guy who suggested banning all people of 'Indian' appearance, or with Muslim names. Exactly what Sumanji was saying - Being judged at because of his skin colour. Sumanji I agree with you 100% btw. I can't even be bothered to explain it to people anymore.

There are terrorists of all breeds and cultures, its just that Islamic terrorists have been headlining for the past few years. I remember on TV there was a white Muslim who was a core member of the UK based extremist group a few years ago.

EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/21_July_2005_London_bombings#Suspects_and_later_arrests

All of African origin.

Terror>Muslim>More hatred>More seperation>blame muslims for everything

Sept 11th - Before that people were concerned with Palestine and wanting a cease fire, so close but once this happened no one cared. Everyone focused on Sept 11th, civilians die in Palestine, who cares? Muslims pfft

7/7 - Stem more hate for muslims, more deaths of many, many innocents in Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan, again who cares? Muslims pfft

(And so the future...)

10th August - Before this day, people were concerned with Lebanon but now...who cares? Muslims pfft

Dunno...either the 'terrorists' are stupid or something else is going on, meh.

Yet because of being brown, many people, either through ignorance or fear will now look at me standing in an airport with a rucksack and think "Does he have a bomb in there, omg I'm scared". How annoying

It is hardly ideal for the people living in fear either.

That first article is pretty scary. That is why I am more than happy to comply with these new (temporary or not) security measures. Complementary drinks on board would be excellent, but even without I don't mind parting a bit of cash if I'm safe in the knowledge that the person next to me isn't going to blow a hole in the plane with their drinks bottle. Explosives in the hold, yada yada, I still think this is a step in the right direction and I can't agree more with the person who posted about people carrying stupid amounts of hand luggage :)
