Anyone else find trying to use a Bag for Life on a Tesco Self Service Till a nightmare? I keep getting "Unexpected item in the bagging area", then it gives you the "I'm using my own bag" dialogue, but I still can't get it to work. At this point I'm beginning to flap a bit and getting annoyed. I resort to piling up everything without a bag and bagging it up after I've paid, not easy when you've got a lot of stuff.

I buy a fair bit each shop at my local Tesco Metro and I find these self service tills inadequate for large amounts of shopping. I also think they are too low and you have to stoop. Not good if you have a bad back.

Rant over.

I don't use them out of principle. We are paying for the staff to perform their jobs for us, not paying for us to perform the staff's job for them.

I used to have a horrible time with them and always noticed other people struggling too. Then i realized it was because i felt this unexplainable urge to panic and rush as quickly as possible as to not hold up the other people queuing. I've now realized this rush causes the machine, and myself to mess up more.

I now approach them casually and slowly work my way through my shopping. I get dirty looks from people in the queue sometimes, but i nearly always beat other people out as they've had to redo certain items/call for help etc.

They're annoying when they don't work to the shopper's intuition - you still need an assistant nearby which I'm sure you don't in other countries. Might be wrong.

I prefer them, it makes the process much quicker.
