Test drove a VX220 turbo today

Steve, did you get an e-mail from a guy called Matt?

One of my mates off PH. He's got a Stage 1/2 Black VXT he is looking to sell.

Nope, never got anything. I'm afraid that after having a black R5GTT (before the respray), a black MR2 and a black Civic Type-R I'm really trying to get away from black cars. Ideally I want Coral Blue if I can find a good un'

I noticed that there's a Europa Blue turbo on Adrian Blyth at the moment. Did they do any VXTs in Europa or is it a mistake?

EDIT : This one http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/61752.htm

Yeah, although I have only seen one of them and that was at Hethel. The chances of finding one are non existant.

I quite like Mandarin, looks really good in person.

For a turbo, your only real options are:

Coral Blue
Moonland
Black
Silver
Red

That's in order of how common they are.

www.muncher.org.uk/lastvx <- That gives a rough idea of colour breakdown.

There aren't really any Yellow Turbos as for some reason they were a pain to shift, whereas the Lighning Yellow NAs aren't.

That's good news as Coral is the colour I want! (ideally with central locking. I can do without all the rest of the electrical stuff but I can't be bothered with having to manually lock the doors)

I never lock any of my doors.

I don't think it is a target for thieves at all for a variety of reasons. I'd rather they just opened the door and set the alarm off than trying to do some damage such as cutting the soft top or smashing a window.

No one tries to steal them as they just don't appeal to thieves.

Seeing as every car I've ever had (except the MR2) has been broken into I think I'd still prefer to lock my doors. I'd probably get a dual zone proximity sensor too, that way it'll warn off anyone that gets too close.

I was talking to a mate with an Elise the other day and he said the same. Not sure I could bring myself to leave it unlocked on the street. Surely that invalidates your insurance in case of theft anyway?

You're just as well off with an alarm and leaving the door unlocked. It's a soft top and if someone wants to get in they will so the best thing you can do is to not leave them anything worth taking. By all means have a bunch of sirens go off if someone comes too close or opens the unlocked door but there's no point in forcing the scum to slash your roof in order to get in.

If someone wants to get into any car, they will, a lock on a door is not going to stop them.

As for insurance it's no different to leaving it with the roof off and any case your insurer would have to prove you left it unlocked. Someone tries to open one of my doors, the alarm goes off, they leg it.

If the door was locked, they try the door, no luck so either smash the window, butcher the lock or worst case, slash the soft top, alarm then goes off and they leg it.

Obviously I understand the logic behind it, I would just feel very ill at ease, leaving such a conspicuous car, on the street, unlocked.

At least it means if they want to take anything inside the car they dont have to ruin your car in the process. That way it could be cheaper then claiming and just replace the stolen things yourself. Does the VX220 have a lockable glovebox?

I also havent bothered securing in my head unit in my car. If they want to take the head unit, let them. They would get it out anyways and in the process just damage all my dash. Though i don't have an alarm so i keep my doors locked.

There's no glove box at all, let alone lockable :p

Mine has absolutely no storage space in the cabin at all, unless of course you count the loose change with rattles about under the seat :p

Hmm for some reason i thought there was. Meh just stick all your stuff in the boot. Is there also storage space in the front of the car at all?

Nope, nothing in the front, just a small boot.
