Hey, sorry for writing after this time but this problem seems like a pandemic for many gamers. Nearly every game sub has a post in it adressing this issue and many people waiting for developers to fix it. But it seem like the issue is nothing to do with that.
Could it be a problem of windows? Or do you have a solution? I don’t know but the fun is gone in many games with this issue and i couldn’t find a fix
Yeah I haven't even seen many devs comment on it. Honestly I looked into it for months and put in countless hours of work and testing; built an entirely new test rig, joined forums specifically to try fix the issue, to no avail. I also asked my bro to send me a video when we played a game with LOD issues: 2/2 times he saw the exact same thing, but "didn't really bother" him.
The only possible explanation I can think of is these issues were there all along, on just those games and I just didn't notice it, and it's like a dead pixel on a 4k screen - once you know it's there it's impossible to not notice it and get annoyed by it... and this brain virus then affects your thought process on a new game you play.
However a few things make me doubt this theory:
1) Some games I compared a 4k 60fps vids on youtube to my game, and the LOD in particular was NOT there. May be different versions of game, however the most recent patch wouldn't get the go ahead makes me doubt that.
2) Some games are SO freaking bad it would seem impossible to NOT notice them immediately and for others to not notice. eg Subnautica. Played it for a good 20hours, only noticed on a new gpu... MAYBE cos I was scrutinising the new gpu and higher settings?
I guess game devs are just still very limited to how much detail can be rendered at a certain distance. Seems odd to have such an old school limitation in 2023, especially in games that are damn near photo realistic, but I don't know enough about game development to know why this issue/limitation has not really been cracked yet or even had a more fluid LOD distance tech invented, with say low res textures that GRADUALLY blend into higher res textures rather than popping instantly and drawing your attention to it.
But it would seem some, even AAA devs seem to either be crap at it or don't care. Massive trees appearing 100m in front of you in Rise of The Tomb raider shouldn't be acceptable but apparently it is.
