Coming Tuesday, August 19. :D

http://steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/

Updates all week on the above link.

The update will include new game modes and maps, in addition to new unlockable weapons and achievements for the Heavy class. Valve plans to reveal each element of the patch--as well as a "special installment" to the "Meet the Team" video series--in a series of daily updates to its website.

As expected really, Heavy updates and more maps. Nice to see some good comunity maps goign official too.

The new game mode has thrown me a bit. Have we heard anything about this before now? With the Payload game type there was lots of hype and testing and all sorts, yet this seems to have come out of the blue...? Suggests it may be a tweak to an existing game type instead of a completely new one.

Yeah this is the first mention of a new gameplay mode that I know of. I do hope its something new though and not just a revision of an existing gameplay mode.

Do you thinkTF2 is worth me buying from steam (£10ish)? I wasn't massively keen on TFC but then I came to it little too late. I've already got HL2 and Portal so I can't justify buying the orange box for it.

Definitely. The best MP game I've ever played, maybe one of the best games period. I never played TFC but from what people have said this is very different.

They might do a free weekend when the update launches, so hold off a week and you might get to try it out first.

Valve announced today that the "Heavy Update," which it describes as "the largest update to Team Fortress 2 since it was first released," will be rolling out via Steam next week, August 19. The Heavy-focused revision will bring with it new maps, new Achievements, new game modes and a special installment of the "Meet the Team" video series. That means the Heavy class will finally get his new weapon load out, as the Medic and Pyro have already done.

The developer is dolling out details on the Heavy Update throughout the week, with today's news drip focusing on a new officially released community map. Steel, a capture map, was created by Jamie "Fishbus" Manson. It will join a new map for the Payload game mode and five new maps for the unnamed new game mode.

Details on how the Heavy will be updated in TF2 haven't been revealed yet, but the goal, according to the game's official blog, was to "make the Heavy more viable when he has no Medic to pair with." Sounds, well, heavy.

5 maps! :D

But tbh Steel isn't that great a map. I can see why they picked it, but it's not good enough to be released officially by Valve.

Wonder why theyve not revealed any hints about new weapons, like the last sniper vid which gave us a glimpse of the pyro flare gun.

Cheers :)

Though I've got a bit of free time tonight so I'll just go for it and buy it now :)

Be scary to see what theyve given the heavy, im guessing small bursts of amazing accuracey with the minigun being one of them.

They've changed the wording to arenas now. People on the steam forum are speculating they might be DM arenas and that the new gamemode is DM. I hope not :(

:( That would be so boring. I can't see Steam letting their standards drop like that either. Really hope its not true.

I think making the Heavy independent is a bad idea, takes away the "team" element of the medic/heavy relationship. Still good news about the update, means I can play Pyro again as everyone will be heavy!

TF2 = best FPS out there

Why isnt Steel good enough? Its a very well made map with a new method or play. Just because its a fairly complex map that confuses you the first few times you play it doesnt make it a bad map :P

Very good fun once you know your way around and the last cap is pyro/airblast heaven.

Steam letting their standards down? Steam is just the name of the application you use to manage your games and browse servers :P
