TF2 Heavy Update

Looking good. Seeing as I come from the Battlefield background, can't beleive how much free stuff we get :D

its not really free stuff
think of it more as developing on the fly
the whole game when its finished updating will be amazing
but they need to strike a balance

im worried that increasing the power or the heavy on his own could result in a team full of heavies with no support or attack

they should balance it out a bit more - either that or make his achievements harder

Its addictive, I seem to play it constant for a week then not for a few. WIll be back on it for Heavy update though!

Steam letting their standards down? Steam is just the name of the application you use to manage your games and browse servers :P

:( :p

I think making the Heavy independent is a bad idea, takes away the "team" element of the medic/heavy relationship. Still good news about the update, means I can play Pyro again as everyone will be heavy!

TF2 = best FPS out there

I don't think they'll make the heavy independent, and if they do, he'll be weaker in other areas. These are the things Valve are thinking about...

Goal: Make the Heavy more viable when he has no Medic to pair with.

Constraints:

It shouldn't have a cumulative effect when being healed by a Medic as well. Heavy/Medic pairs do pretty well as it is.

It shouldn't significantly change the Heavy's role, relative to other classes. In particular, it shouldn't significantly encroach on another class's role.

It should be understandable for both the user and the player it's being used on.

Definitely. The best MP game I've ever played, maybe one of the best games period. I never played TFC but from what people have said this is very different.

TFC is not quite so easy to get into as in some areas there's a greater depth/variation of play.

TF2 is easier to get into, while still offering some nooks and crannies of skill. Maps are also more varied.

TF2 is slightly more disposable in the sense you WILL die, most likely a lot. So gameplay can be a little 'suicidal'. Whereas in TFC, it's possible if you're good enough to play a map (even offensively) without dieing (much).

With all this said, I don't play TFC anymore, and only play TF2.

UPDATE:
From http://www.teamfortress.com/

We've been a little quiet for the last week as we've put the finishing touches on the Heavy update. We thought the Pyro pack was the biggest we'd be doing for a while, due to the large changes to the Pyro, but the Heavy update has turned out to be even bigger. In addition to the three unlockable weapons and thirty-five achievements for the Heavy, we've got a new game mode with five new arenas for it, a new Payload map focusing on more open spaces than Goldrush, and another popular community-made map. Throughout the rest of the week we'll be giving you the details on all this, and if all goes well, you'll have your hands on it shortly afterwards.

So it's 5 new 'arenas' for the new gameplay type. Was hoping for some more attack-defend or more CP maps :(

'a new Payload map focusing on more open spaces than Goldrush' - should be interesting and hopefully better for Scouts.

Why isnt Steel good enough? Its a very well made map with a new method or play. Just because its a fairly complex map that confuses you the first few times you play it doesnt make it a bad map :P

Very good fun once you know your way around and the last cap is pyro/airblast heaven.

I just personally don't like that map, maybe it's just me. It looks really nice and everything, quite an original concept and design but I don't feel that map flows so well as others. The first few times I played it, it was a massive WTF is going on here. I've played it in clan matches quite a few times and just don't seem to like it. I can definitely see why Valve has released it, it fits in with the whole style of TF2. Will your team decide to attack straight for point E together? Or will you attack each point one after the other... I just think it's not suited to certain classes that well. The scout would have a nightmare in the tight corridor and there's not many spots for snipers. The way the final point is laid out isn't that great I think.

I personally would have liked to see pl_dbheights released, a payload version of Dustbowl. With a little input and help from Valve that map could be fantastic.

And I know, if I don't like the map I don't have to play it :)

Anyways, thats my opinion on the community map choice :p

Alright guys, hearing good things about team fortress. I play CS:S when I get a chance to game, and sometimes have a single player on the go as well (currently half life 2 I'm re-doing). What can I expect from Team Fortress and should I go straight into TF2? What about being able to run it? I have an e2140 clocked to about 3.2ghz, 2gb ram on XP SP2, and a ATI HD 3850 256mb
Cheers

Get TF2 and jump straight in. It runs off the source engine which should run at nearly max on your pc spec flawlessly. You can pick up and play with TF2, pick the pyro/soldier/heavy for easy kills, then move to medic/spy/sniper once you are happy with the speed of the game.

What he said!

Plus, give each class a chance but there's subtle depth to each of them.
