TF2 problem

Brought the orange box, and Iam trying to play TF2. Loads up past the valve logo, then stutters abit. Start a game then my pc will crash and monitor will enter power save mode.

Anyone know why Iam having this problem? Iam running x64 vista, originally thought it might be because off dreamscence running that, but ive disabled it and still having the same problem.

I had a similar problem a little while ago, albeit on a different system, however you could try this:

Open up Steam
Browse to the game (in this case TF2) in the "My Games" panel
Right click on the game name and select "Properties"
In the "General" tab press the "Set launch options..." button.
In the new window type "-dxlevel 90" without the ""
Try and launch the game

If that fails try it with DX levels 81, 80 and 70

This sets the DX version the game uses to load, it worked for me. The problem I had is that you must re-set the graphical settings you use each time the game starts, obviously this is far from ideal, but it may be worth a shot to try at least. For some reason it eventually started to work normally, no idea why, may do the same for you.

Cheers Pea0n, tried setting it at -dxlevel 90. Launched the game no stuttering, found a server started to play for about a min then it crashed and monitor went off. Had to switch off the pc on both times as the reset didnt work.

Just tried running the Crysis demo aswell, and Iam having the same problem.

Can anyone help me out with this?

Sorry you mean direct x? If so how do I find out if I need to update it?

quite possibly, if not, its good to update it anyway

if its not then we need to find out your other drivers

Ok will give it ago. Running the catalyst 7.10 ati drivers for my gfx.

yer sorry installed, and having same problems occur. Can't start playing crysis, can only play about a min off TF 2 before it crashes

Didnt try levels 81, 80 and 70, guessing try wont work.

Tried HL2 played for about 5minutes then same problem
