The 2010 Chilli growing thread - it's scorching!

@ Jakstaar2007, I'd say those were jalapeños mate. Not 100% sure but the ones you get from Supermarkets that say green or red chillies are usually Jalapeños and they look like them.

I wish I had grown some to put on pizzas and stuff. Nice versatile Chilli that isn't too hot. Looks like they are cropping well.

Looking at my chillies its apparent that I should have used the larger 5 litre pots instead of the 3 litre I used. I re-potted one plant into a 5 litre as a test andit has 20 chillies on it and they are much bigger than the other plants. At least I know for next year.

Ah great, thanks. How do i know when they are ready to harvest? Do they get to a certain size?

im already planning on what im going to be growing next year!! i think im going to attempt the Numex Twilight next year. they look like a nice colourful household chilli.

Scores on the doors, fruits in progress:

Plant #1 - 14
Plant #2 - 3
Plant #3 - 0

So the plant that fruited last year is going to make a bumper crop! :D Amazing considering it's not had a lamp or heating this year, surviving living on a window sill over winter with single glazing and -8 outside.

Fear not - I will be saving the seeds for the 2011 chilli growing thread :D

For Jalapenos they usually turn red. I'd leave them on until they feel ripe too. The riper the fruit, the more likely the seeds will germinate as their internal energy reserves will be topped up nicely.

Save the seeds before you cook them. Then if you like the taste and you don't over winter you can grow more next year :D

@aceface - probably wind causing stem thickening in addition to insects sucking may have slowed the growth overall resulting in a thicker stem.

Nice :D.

This Naga is doing great, Ive re-potted it today so it should hopefully be big enough to keep over winter.

Also got a couple of Bell pepper plants that are now flowering :).

Just need a bit of sun now.

I'm really confused.

My tepin is fruiting like mad, about 14 3" peppers, but none of them are ripening. All still green, when they should be going to yellow and then red.

Plant itself is healthy, and I feed once a week with Chilli Focus.

What gives?!?!

same here krooton...all my chillis are still greeny/whitish. quite big, but none are going red???

What type do you have?

My tepins are overwintered, and the initial, if small, crop from last year were yellow then red. These are just green, and I have tested one and it had no heat to it.

Here is an update from the bottom of my garden, the glass of wine is purely to give a sense of scale...

Left to right are, Naga Jolokia, Naga Jolokia, Ring of fire ( on ground), and a scotch bonnet. I`ve only grown Nagas before, so I know they will not fruit until later in the year. The Ring of Fire is doing really well, I tried one of the chillies yesterday and it was surprisingly hot.

my jalapenos started fruiting before yours did and mine arent ripe yet either. i guess we have to keep on waiting.. and waiting for them to start changing colour.

That ring of fire is doing great! Mine is no where near that big but has a lot less room. Got lots from it already though that look like yours :D So many Scotch bonnets I've already had about 10 and have over 15 growing on there too. Orange Habs have just started to fruit too :D

Sorry about the sack pic, the light is useless in here. It's on a mission to get to the biggest tree like thing ever though this one! It has flowers all over and about 6 fruits at the moment, proper going for it in this good weather we've been having.
To give you an idea, on tip toes I can just reach to the red window, cant tickle the tops!
