The 2010 Chilli growing thread - it's scorching!

Seeing so many photos of everyones lovely chillies is making me rather envious. :(

I just want to make a turbo hot chilli paste and make a nice curry with it.

Donatez chilliz plox? :p

Few of my plants are getting yellow leaves. Is this down to over- or under-watering you reckon?

Could be nutrients, water, temps, light or disease. I'm not an expert but it may be worth asking on the chilligalore forums. They should be able to give you a pointer.

I wondered about harvesting to encourage new growth but i have tried picking a jalapeno last year leaving all the top green bit on the plant so all i got was the chilli with the top still on the plant but nothing grew where i picked it. So im guessing if u pick fruit it just tells the plant "we need more flowers so get making new stalks and flowers". Well thats my opinion.

Chillies won't grow back in the place you cut them from. A new flower needs to form, and it won't grow there. I've just cut mine back again - 3rd time this year, and the stress it has caused them has resulted in a real rush to bloom again - last harvest of the year coming up I reckon before getting ready to keep a couple for winter - should be interesting...

I think the plant has a mindset of. OMG the flowers im putting out are falling off and my babies wont grow as their not fully developed (harvesting a little early). So then. I know, im gona grow more while i can in the nice weather so im gona grow some stalks and stick flowers on and hopefully these new ones will grow properly and then ill have my babies (seeds from fruit its thinking here).

:p

i dont think my plants have any flowers left to open, theres about 10 fruits on each with one almost done and another a while to go. but can i make these flower one more time before the end of the month so i can get another batch growing ?? i pick all fruits off and it does that right ??? might stop whatever flowers i do get falling off, ive not had one set since the initial 10.

i just lightly fried a scotch bonnet before adding it to some heinz sweet chilli beans, should make them interesting cos even a tiny raw slice of it makes u burst out in a sweat lol

I've got about 6 chillis that have now gone nice and red on my plant, should I leave them on or harvest them?

When it comes to harvesting, do I just snip the chillis off at the stalk?

Cool, I'll snip one off this evening and try it...hopefully it'll be nice...

Now, when it comes to seeds, what do I need to do with the seeds to store them for use next spring?

My Hab has about 10 fruits on it now, which is good as this was very slow to start to flower and my gf managed to kill hers. Blesss.
I also have some fruit appearing growing on my Naga plant outside! Put it out there due to whitefly and lack of action (had it a year and it did nothing last year) and thought it would do nothing, but it's done well for being outside and has about 9 chillies slowly growing.

Does anyone fancy doing a seed exchange for next year's crops? I reckon we could get something set up for exchange, postage would be cheap as err.. seeds too. Might start another thread up...

Ahh the seed swap again. sounds good. I don't have many seeds but could maby spot someone two Pinochios nose seeds and 2 padron seeds as well as 2 bell peppers.

Only bought them in packs of 10 and guy at work wants a few. so if you fancy them first to say yes gets them.

Edit: I do however have quite a lot of other kinds of seeds such as veg and stuff.

Cool, I've joined the seed swap group. I only have some Cayenne's, Apache's, Bird Eye's, and F1 Super Chilli's on the go so not much to swap, but hopefully we can get something on the go :)

What's the best way to preserve the chilli plants over the winter?

A chilli harvest for your delectation. :D

Featuring, Chocolate Habanero, Orange Habanero, Mustard Habanero, Bhut Jolokia, Naga Morich, Fuego, Joe's Long and a couple of varieties of annums that I don't have names for.

Starting to see more of the larger fruit ripening now after the poor weather and will be having more pods than you can shake a stick at over the next few weeks.
