Have a look on ebay, seems to be pretty cheap compared to B&Q.

They sell both here and also sell those peat pellets.

I'm just trying to figure out how much I'd need of each, 2 litres or 5 .

I just used vermiculite I picked up in homebase. It was basically not too large but I think that going to be relative between suppliers. I also used a standard potting compost.

I used Chilli Focus last year. I tried a natural pepper fertiliser but the results from CF were better.

MarkA - I'd have thought 2 litres would be more than enough for a starting chilli crop.

I took some seeds out of some 'finger chillies' that i got from Tesco and put them in damp tissue but they aren't germinating like my Cayenne seeds have. maybe they take longer?

These cayenne seeds have shoots coming out of them about 5-6mm long now but my seed pods haven't turned up yet. Will they be ok left in the damp tissue until the pods arrive?

I've been getting some seeds germinating and in amongst them are some calcutta's which the fruit grow to about 3" in size, but these when sprouting have got really tall, well about 2.5" and quite lanky I would say but still little first leaves. Should I now try and get these in the sun as much as possible to get the leaves growing more, could this be why they have continued to grow up in the hunt for better light and not bigger leaves?
Sorry if that makes no sense!

Sounds like you may need to provide a support stake and tie the plant to the stake. Some chilli species need support others don't. The computer/desk fan is another good way, the gentle breeze slowly strengthens the stem.
The light level is a large factor. In the old thread I tried an LED light but it didn't provide enough light so the resulting seedling was very straggly too. Once they were put under the bulb with a fan they started to thicken the stem but they'd already sprouted their main leaves.

Where are they sat at the moment? A Window sill?

I do believe I just made a purchase

Fatalii
Hot Cherry
Georgia Flame Chilli
Peach Habanero Chilli Seeds
Hot Lemon
Jalapeno Chili
5 Raja Mirch - Nagaland Naga Morich Chilli Seeds
Hinklehatz Yellow Chilli

These are my ring of fire seeds, planted two to a pot and germinated on a south facing windowsill. They were planted two weeks ago. I have a similar set up with Naga Jolokia planted about three weeks ago, but non have sprouted to date.

I bought an aerogarden last week and planted it with four pods of Naga Morish and three pods of ring of fire, these are starting to sprout. The plants will be too tall for the machine, but I will use the aero to get a head start and then re-pot as they get bigger.

Good luck with the germinating.

You'll have green fingers before you know it!

I got some jiffy pods but the guy on ebay recommended 30mm ones for chillies as they grow slowly. The only thing is the germinating seeds are about 20-30mm long now so the bottom of the root wont be far off the bottom of the seed pod. Not sure if this will be a problem or not, I'll just have to wait and see i guess.

Popped them in a tin with cling film over the top and put into a warm place until the shoots appear and then I'll move to a windowsill.

They were on top of the a computer server case as it was the most consistent temp, but not the lightest place, which is why i thought that they were getting lanky on some. Only reason I didnt move them right away is due to the fact this tray has 4 different varieties of chilli in and not all were germinated. I am out skiing in france at the moment and didn't want to leave them at home in the germinating state so they've come for a trip! My family don't half think I'm odd!

Planted my chilli seeds on Sunday.

Jalapenos, Worldbeaters, Cherry Bombs and Dorset Nagas. I'll put some pics up soon.

Struggling to find a nice consistantly warm place for the Nagas though

Planted mine up over the weekend I am trying a few diffent pre packed grow your own chilli packs so will be interesting to see how they develop.

I'll get some pictures up soon.
