The 2010 Chilli growing thread - it's scorching!

Good stuff they look happy, mine have started to grow additional leaves but are still being a little slow with the cold evenings.

I finally got round to planting the seeds NickK sent over for me;

Let's see how these do!

In the last thread I posted an idea I had for homemade chilli sauce.
Well, I tried it and it was excellent so heres the receipe, no pics as it all happened too quickly and we ate the end result pdq !

Finely chop a medium onion and gently soften in a frying pan with a little oil. Add two chopped garlic cloves and sweat for a bit. Chop as many chillis as you have. I used about 50 seeds and all. Add to onions and cook until they soften. Pour in about half a pint of cider vinegar, stir , bring to boil and simmer until mixture begins to thicken, does take an hour or so. Then blitz with liquidiser, season to taste(care required)strain to remove seed husks and bottle up.
The result was approximately 50% fiercer than Encona chilli sauce and with more flavour.

I got some free chilli seeds last year but I only got 2 actual chillies and they had no heat whatsoever, probably because I didn't plant until almost September.

If it's any use to anyone Poundland are selling Cayenne "grow it on the windowsill" pots. Also, the 99p store are selling the same sort of thing but with Habaneros.

I planted 3 seeds of each and the Cayenne have now germinated after 8 days. Come on summer, hurry up!

I'm looking to grow some chilli's in the next few weeks ideally just on the windowsill at home. Can anyone recommend a few starter chilli's that will be fine germinating in the airing cupboard and then growing nicely on the windowsill?

Thanks

The leaves on mine have turned brown on the tips slightly. Not sure why, maybe they haven't been getting enough sun as they're in my room which doesn't get direct sunlight.

I got a Grow your own Chilli kit off my GF for Christmas. Planted them about a week ago and put them in the airing cupboard. I have 5 seeds each of Tabasco, Tepin, Hungarian hot wax, Jalapeno and Anaheim chilli seeds.

I got my first shoot today (Anaheim)! It's my first time growing anything haha so any advice appreciated.

-Should I wait for all of the seeds to shoot (around 25) then move them to a sunny place?

-When should I think about putting them in separate pots? (5 seeds in a pot atm)

-How often should I be watering them?

Thanks. Will get some photos up at some point

Fingers crossed :D I germinated it's parent at about 27degC.

I might move mine someplace warmer to germinate then, they're probably only reaching 23deg there at the moment.

I'll go and put them on top of the filer server :)
