Anyone else find that music helps with every aspect of 'gym life'?

Was doing OHP on wednesday,

first set of 8
second set of 7 (spotted majorly)
stuck the headphones in;
whacked out a set of 7 no problem at all!

Same with cardio, listening to DnB / Dubstep I line up my feet with the beat of the music, ended up pumping 1.5x more calories than I was doing without music, it's really odd! (but good!)

I don't really get on with listening to music in the gym, feels like I'm closed off. I chat to quite a few people as well so having head phones in doesn't really work.

I like to do it at home....But thats because im on my own...if i was at the gym it may be different :)

Normally have headphones in usually so I don't have to hear the cr&p people spout! Also stops people trying to talk to me and does help me focus.

Sometimes I'm quite happy to not have them in. All depends what mood I'm in. Loud metal usually helps on a leg day.

I echo BennyC's sentiments exactly. Once when my iPod's battery died, I had to listen to people there. Blimey...... One set of chavs, muscly may they be, were exhibiting class S moron-ness. "Look at the guy over there, he just checks himself out in the mirror all the time". Referring ofcourse, to the guy doing cable tricep pull downs, who was ensuring his arms were only returning to 90 degrees!

After that, the guy who was 'mentoring' his friend then said "right, we'll do a quick set of those burny things [referring to a superset] because it makes you look massive".

Groooooooan!

I think you need to train with the right sort of people. Whenever I've trained with friends the workout has taken ages and I lose focus chatting in between sets.

Now I'm not weak, but there are some great lifters on this forum that make me look it when considering body weight.

However, this man makes me feel like I might as well go back to my purple and orange 2lb / 4lb dumbells:

just wow.

Oh, in random news IFBB Pro James Llewelyn (or however you spell it) will be in the gym i pop into sometimes tomorrow. Been there a few times lately!

There's a few vids of him around. 290kg squat @ 56kg. :|

He qualifies as a "midget" and from that vid, I'm inclined to say "No ****, sherlock!"

Ok undoubtedly that's some impressive lifting, but on his deadlift the bar doesn't even move 10 inches!

it doesn't lol.
bench is even worse, starts super wide and if you look at the angle on his elbow you'll see that it's nowhere near 90 degrees, but hey ho bar on chest.

freakishly strong, however he does have a certain mechanical advantage because of his height.

Why does it say RAW, when you can clearly see a suit on him?

I know with belts is considered raw, but that red suit?

Either way it's Extremely impressive for his weight and size!

Heard a cracker in the changing room today couple of guys were chatting when I went in and I heard one guy say to the other "Don't be stupid you can't bench with DB's you ******* idiot!" :D

HAHAHAHAH!

Dumbbells are amazing for chest work and support muscles, they actually hit the pecks better than the normal barbbell bench. :D

Let the fools keep talking smack, some of those same people probably can't squat and deadlift.
