The 2012 Chilli growing thread - the second burn!

Hi again guys a little advice please if you can. I am looking for some hot seeds to start next season, what would you suggest for a total novice i have limited space so would like heavy cropers i have room for about half dozen outside and 3/4 inside. Also what time of the year should i try to start them i have read that you start in early january. The room i will use is always very warm so no trouble with that side, just for some reason nothing grows for me "maybe this year things will be more lucky".

Hi tarw. I tried a few seeds this year and by far the easiest to grow which were really hot are Apache F1's. Small plants that produce at least 50 hot little chili's per plant. They only grow about 2 feet high so are great for small spaces. Quite hardy as well as I got a good crop from all four plants. The same cannot be said for my Scotch Bonnets and Jalapenos which produced minimal fruit and the quality was poor. Can probably blame the summer as they were all grown outside. I have so many Apaches I still have a few jars of dried ones and they go along way. Everyone who took some were very impressed with the heat.

Thanks PapaLazaru they sound ok but they about the same heat as the Numex Twilight that grew for me this year made a curry recently and put about 6/8 in without much heat, gave it to the Mrs as she likes a milder curry. But apart from that they sound ok just have to put a few more in i suppose, saying that they are a lot bigger. Them seeds are a bit expensive though aint they 4 quid for 6 seeds no room for error there.

Am I the only one that thinks this thread should go back into GD next year? This year doesn't seem to have been anywhere near as active, and the only thing that's changed is being in 'La Cuisine'

Technically it isn't Cuisine is it? It's gardening :p

They're all basically the same.

Was looking at seeds today seeing what to grow.
Time to spend Some of January pay packet on gardening stuff. Have to get the wardrobe set back up. So that they are fully grown by the time warm weather comes.

Well, I kind of agree as the super hot ones are pretty pointless. I can't see me enjoying them too much. I just like watching people eat them on YT.

I am probably going to grow some Apache F1's again for my main crop. Still have loads of them dried. They were so easy to grow and really do pack a nice punch.

I think I've decided what I'm going to grow next year. Pretty much the same as this year, minus "Demon Red" which was a bushy variety with tiny chillies. Keeping them in smaller pots this time helped keep them under control!

My plants are still alive and have quite a lot of fruit still on them. Really need to dry some out and make chilli oil again.
