Chop, blend, mix with E45 (or vaseline) and you have one very warming winter body rub / salve.:eek::eek:

Don't know if possible, but could you take a load and try and extract the oils out of them to make a super dooper hot drop for adding into sauces etc? There is also the add them to pickles to make warming presents for family members / friends option too

ok as promised some pics of bhut jolokias

Does anyone have any suggestions for how best to deal with pests?

My Chilli plants are under attack from what I think are Thrips. They are doing a lot of damage to the leaves and making the infected plants look pretty sick now.

I'm new to growing chillis so I bought some Cayenne seeds and planted them quite late in April. As I planted them quite late, they have grown to about full size and have some full-sized fruit on them but haven't started to ripen yet. I got impatient waiting for them to ripen so I spotted some plants at a farmers market today and bought a couple to tide me over while I wait for mine.

First one is labelled "Hungarian Market" I've done a bit of googling and can't find any reference to it. I've found Hungarian wax and Hungarian black but it's neither of those. It's described as medium hot. The flesh on its own has a nice sweet flavour and a gentle heat. With the seeds, it gives a nice burn. Here's a picture - maybe somebody can identify it:

The other one is Apache. I've seen them mentioned a few times on here so people will know about them. The flesh on its own is about the same heat as the "Hungarian" with seeds. Apache with seeds is a fair bit hotter.

As you can see, they are both mature plants with a fair amount of fruit.

Here's a photo of them in my hand so you can get an idea of the size (Apache on the left, "Hungarian" on the right).

Been picking chils for the last 2 months and decided to pick about half the ripe ones this evening, as shown, from 2 plants.

Now I need to figure out what to do with them. I've been making curries, stir fries and chili but have far too many now. They are quite ghost so I find 2-3. Plenty, giving a decent burn.

I cut some up and put in cheap olive oil to make spiced oil.
Some I will leave to dry.

Don't know what to do with the rest. Perhaps cut them fine and mix with oil, salt and vinegar so they last ?

Wow! I had the same problem last year. Far too many Cayennes. But this year I seem to have got it just right. Still too many Scotch Bonnets though! :p

Chilli oil was great, I still have some left from last year!

Same problem here, ive got a ton of chilli, how do you dry them out? i could use them as flakes if i dried them, do you just leave them on the side for a bit?

Lowest oven setting, depending on temp even prop the door open and leave for 12 or so hours.Turning occasionally.

Got given a small chilli plant a few weeks back, no idea what it is! its now huge and producing what i call bog standard green chillis and is still going!

Does the plant need to trimmed at all? its getting quite large now!

Does anyone know if my greenhouse is actually able to even serve it's purpose as a green house? My house faces west, and at the bottom of the garden is the greenhouse, which backs onto fairly sizable trees (taller than my house). This means that the greenhouse only gets direct sunlight from about 10am til 1pm, before 10am and the sun is behind the trees; after 1pm, it's disappeared off infront of the house.

I'd really like to grow chillies. I have no window sills available - can they grow in the garden?
