The 2012 hayfever thread

I have struggled with this ailment since a child and have never managed to control it.
I am currently taking Benadryl Acrivastine. These have been good in the past, but may have to change.

I dont have a forgiving job. I work as a riverkeeper, mowing and strimming a lot. I have to wear a face mask to help me, but this only keeps the pollen off of my chest.

Change my job? No chance...

I am currently raising my eldest son to become a boffin/scientist to create a cure. He is only 7 though, so I have a long wait. :(

Grass pollen is terrible at the moment. I shower as soon as I return home and wash my clothes.

Itchy eyes, throat, nose, noses keeps on running and the skin rash i get it quiet bad. I sneeze so much i get headaches, but this year i was okish. I dont take any meds like the tablets or the nasal spray i just take the eye drops, my God it feels good when you drop a few in the eye.

But the best thing is you wont catch a cold while you have hayfever.

Im 24 and never had hayfever untill about 3 years ago, I used to think it was an attention seekers whiney ***** made up illness... Oh how I was wrong.

This week I have been having sneezing fits of about 6-8 seneezes countles times a day including at night, my eyes are sore and wont stop itching, clear snott **** is constantly running from my nose.

To make things worse ALL the medications make me so drowsy im unable to funtion. Karma is a ***** :D

im doing ok so far this year, normally by now i would be a sneezing snot covered mess, im only getting it in the morning then it clears up and am fine, except for thursdays, i'm always really bad on a thursday

The last two days I've been bad, haven't noticed it at all until I went to work (outdoorsish) and forgot to take a Piriteze, which have been pretty good in the past for me. Today however I'm sure I took one this afternoon and I'm suffering now :( really not happy. I was out of the UK last summer so I had forgotten how this feels :(

sadly none of these tablets seem to be doing anything :/ ill try the nose spray as i cant function properly because of this bs!

That stuff over the counter does not work for me....pyriton...boots own..tesco own...allereeze....sadsackeeze and they all contain exactly the same ingriedient...lol.

I use Boots allergy relief medicine and it works pretty well for me (I think the active ingredient is Chlorphenamine Maleate).

Keeps my symptoms at bay if I have it in the morning at 7am until I take it again at 6pm

It also works really well for my two boys who also suffer badly from hayfever.

This year is horrible, and the wind makes it worse because it blows the pollen... I used cetirizine but it makes me feel so sleepy while not working a bit...

I usually get it but this year haven't really suffered much. I think the 2cm thick dust in my room is causing me more problems!

I've been reasonably ok so far, my eyes are starting to itch but I'm staying strong :D. Terrible past couple of years though.

Does any one else get really hungry when they've had a douse of hay fever? Every time I get in a bad state (sneezing, itching eyes, runny nose) I feel the need to scoff anything within reach.
