The 2012 hayfever thread

Only a couple of rough days this year, which is good - first time I've used the loratadine tablets (Tesco's own!) and they've been great. Much better than previously used centrazine

For anyone that takes the one a day Lotradine tablets get them from the supermarket rather than Boots. As I recently discovered that for a box of 14 that they are £1 in Morrisons and £4.45:eek: in Boots

I suffer from Hayfeaver aswell,Although my tablets are prescribed (Fexofenadine 120Mg)

Those 10mg tablets you can pick up from most shops do nothing for me,They are not strong enough.

The Fexofenadine does a good job,Although they can make you tired.

I get 180mg Fexofenadine from my doctor - now they really do make you drowsy zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I went to see an allergy/diet specialist about 10 years ago. Have been hay-fever free ever since.

I occasionally have to modify my diet (cutting out sugar/yeast) if I show signs of being affected. But haven't had to do that for 6-7 years now.

I was doing ok in France, just the odd day of it being really bad, but ok on the whole.

But since moving back to the UK, it has become really bad. I'm back on the Piriton, hello drowseeness. -.-

Popping 1-a-day pills every day and it fights most of it off. Still feel the tingle in the nose with the odd sneeze every now and then.

Last year was KILLER for me though, never had it so bad.

oh last year was the worst for me.. started drinking them early this year once a day at the same time and i do get a sneeze or ten a day but nothing as bad as last year thank god!

Always get it bad myself. Should try some different stuff. I use:

Asda antihistamines
Opticrom eyedrops
Sun glasses
Lucky socks

But really my eyes are just horrific in summer. Nothing seems to work. Sneezing sets in harder later on than now thankfully but damn I just hate summer lol.

Next month, I go back to the island.
Which is affectionately named 'England's Island of Flowers'

GREAT NEWS FOR MY HAYFEVER

So far, so good, i'm trying a nasal spray this time around.

I've moved area which seems to have helped a lot. I went back there the other day for shopping and within half an hour i was a snivelling wreck.

Beconase nose spray + 1 of the original piriton a day. Not had a bad day now in 4 years. Beconase is excellent at stopping runny / blocked noses.

Beconase, which I use for a about five months a year (April to August). Very occasionally I need a citirazine tablet or something similar, but usually the Beconase on its own is enough. The only thing it's not so good for is the itchy eyes (although it mostly fixes them), and for that I find wearing contacts reduces the itching a lot: I assume that the irritation caused by pollen is trivial compared to having a piece of plastic on the front of your eye.

Use Beconase nasal spray myself which has worked really well, but since I have taken up golf I end up with hayfever by the end of of every round I play :(

I personally used to suffer worse than anyone i know, and no medications, prescription or otherwise, touched it at all. My eyes swelled up to the point i could barely see etc, time off work was the order of the day :\

Then my doctor introduced me to a steroid injection, which most GPs wont administer due to side effects, the main one being an unproven link between the injection and osteoporosis.

Given the severity of my hay fever, and that I am about at the lowest risk possible of osteoporosis anyway (young(ish) male, fit and definitely not malnourished), my GP saw it as a worthy trade off. Since having this, I have ABSOLUTELY no symptoms anymore. Last year, i had it slightly too early and it wore off midway through summer, and again hay fever knocked me for six. Had another dose of the steroid injection and within a day I was completely fine again.

definitely worth enquiring about, but finding a GP who will prescribe it is insanely difficult: This is the sole reason i haven't moved my GP surgery since moving back to Manchester, and have to drive the 35 miles to where I used to live!

I've been using Boots hayfever tablets (10mg loratadine) and they have been working most days, was one however where I got some symptoms so I'll pick up a nasal spray too.

I absolutely hate hayfever, it makes me feel weak :(

Mid April I had the worst attack of it since I was a teenager :(

A whole week of just BLURRRRGH because the rape seed oil flowered, then it rained like a boss (and I doped up on boots tablets) and iv been good since. Dreading round two when it heats up again though.
