I never thought mega DOMS would be that bad, then I got it on the quad thats towards the inside of the leg and literally could not do a2g squats or that grab-foot-pull-behind standing stretch thing for a week because it felt like the muscle just stopped extending and was just pulling my kneecap out of place ! Lying on my lacrosse ball and kneading the muscle with a barbell was the only way I got it to let go

There is no cure for DOMS... The only thing is to not skimp on your workouts so mega DOMS is no longer a thing. ;)

I totally agree! It's always the worst after you've taken a break. Keep those muscles moving and you more than likely won't end up paralysed, wondering why you can even get into the position to relieve yourself, without going throught shreds of anguish and shame.

Supposedly also ingesting blueberries / cherries / raspeberries will help and it's to do with the anti-inflammatory effect they have. I've tried it and it didnt seem to do much for me, not noticably anyway.

Just throwing ideas out for the swole ratz.

So the snatch... this is a ridiculous movement for me to master (I guess I need to dedicate more time to drills). I'm weak and can only power snatch 145 LBS [65 KGS]. I presume you are talking about squat snatch?

Pretty much.

I gave up overhead squatting as it put too much strain on my wrists and didn't help my actual snatch... So I just did more snatching.

It is the only way to get "good" at it: strength will only get you so far as it is 90% technique...

One of the things about weightlifting.... you feel like an old man all the time :D

Then you get into the office and hear the words we all dread "You go to the gym, can you just help(carry them all) carry these massive boxes up some stairs"

NO! No I can't, do you not know what sort of state leg day leaves me in!? Just let me hobble around and grimace thank you very much!

Love stuff like this, not sure if it's been posted before (probably): https://symmetricstrength.com/

Snatched 85kg yet? I find the concentric part of the squat is hardest - standing up is "easy" by comparison...
No, my snatch is only at 75Kg. I need to work on it a lot more. My technique is OK, but there are things I need to work on. I'm very quick under the bar, which has the drawback of me being "impatient" and not fully extending. I'm also highly mobile through my shoulders and as a result I lose the bar backwards quite often when I'm close to my 1rm.

I do love the lift though, it's such a fine art.

75kg is good work! :)

You probably lose the bar backwards because your drive isn't vertical enough (i.e. you rock forward onto your toes too quickly; your second pull isn't "up," all sorts of things) so the bar swings out in front.. and then behind in a loop. Being 'highly mobile' doesn't really have much to do with it, I'm afraid. :)

On the topic of olympic lifts, what's the best way to start trying them? They seem to be mostly about technique so don't fancy injuring myself doing them wrong!

Local weightlifting club or Crossfit box. Former is better and potentially cheaper, but Crossfit is seemingly everywhere and therefore more readily available (even if standard may be lower).

Unless you are looking to take them seriously, Crossfit is fine enough to get you started... Even if it does mean doing Crossfit. ;)

Where in NI are you? I can make some recommendations for some good quality CF boxes as some friends have trained there. Some of them may also run barbell / weightlifting clubs as well

so sprained my ankle while dipping, took a week off gym because I couldn't walk properly for a few days.. got back to gym last week, saturday.. then sunday!
