Not really with my calorie allowance on a cut….sadly I don’t have the luxury of cutting on 2.4k + cals like most of the YouTube fitness crew lol.

Not sure what the YouTube fitness crew do. I'm just fairly anti premade stuff - but I guess if it serves the right purpose for you then I guess it's a means to an end. If it works for you and all that....

Not really into food alternatives / stuff like huel and shakes, although I used to be, I forget what it's like. I guess if you're trying hard to count calories etc it's easier to get it from those sources.

Ha, the YT fitness crew was just a generalisation of any YT'er assocated with lifting in some way. They all seem to have the luxury of being able to cut on high cals where i struggle to cut on 1850 :(

Pancake mix is the only thing i use as a replacement, mainly because i dont know how better to get a decent hit of protein and a nice tasty treat some days for breakfast. I do use protein shakes by mainly to supplement with my porridge or as a post workout.

Ill happily make up my own if its cheaper and in the same macro range as the premade mix, afterall who doesnt like pancakes!! (i have mine with zero cal syrup and bacon nom nom).

I used the my protein pancake mix a few years ago and it was half decent, obviously not as good as the real thing but more than enough to curb that craving.

Yeah I mean those portions from premade stuff have all the macros worked out so it does make life easier. Especially if you've got a goal in mind.

Always been suspicious of zero cal syrup... It's witchcraft! :D

Haha 100%!! i can understand why some people dont get on with it, its very sweet, but that works for me at least. Also the taste doesnt last, if left too long and the pancake absorbs then its noticeably less sweet. Good job i can just put more on :D

Haha! :D Yeah I don't have a sweet tooth - but maple syrup is something I do like a lot.

Jesus Christ I just went to place an order for protein and what the hell has happened since my last order in November?!

I've used my protein for over 10 years and the prices have suddenly doubled. Absolutely no chance I'm spending that sort of money. From looking around on Amazon it seems prices have gone through the roof for every brand, but myprotein is by far the worst!

Thats because most of the time they have a sale on and discount codes can be applied on top. Yes all prices have gone up but MP are very similar to where they always have been price wise once you get the discounts applied.

The current sale is pretty rubbish one.

The prices the bulk suppliers charge these days even with discount codes is still mental most of the time.
MP currently want £157 for 5kg of their bog standard concentrate, but it's ok they'll give you 47% off because the DFS sale is on.

On the other hand I can go and support a small British and local to me supplement manufacturer and get some proper tasting branded whey blend for almost the same price without having to find a discount code all the time

MP went down the toilet when The Hut Group bought them and unfortunately the other bulk suppliers just followed their lead.

Crazy. It was only a few months ago I was paying £40-50 for 5kg whey protein. Now it’s £84.

They're all much of a muchness to be honest - ultimately it's just food (protein in this case), in "drink" form. The only thing that differentiates them is the quality of the whey and the amount of "extra stuff" they add to it. Ironically whey was always seen as a bit of a waste (well byproduct really) product from the dairy industry - and someone decided to capitalise on it!

On a different topic, who does cold showers, ice baths etc... ? I've been on a bit of a journey with this now - and it's certainly having both anecdotally and physical benefits to me (I have regular blood tests). With a thought on targeting white adipose tissue and promoting brown adipose tissue (which is what uses up more calories to burn white tissue) the evidence is fairly compelling. It's a heck of a journey though - but I'm actually starting to really enjoy it. It helps focus me back to my meditation which I've left slip somewhat, and that in itself is important.

I'm using USN Ultralean (I know, it's cheap!) at the moment to pack in 50g of protein a day with low cals and a bit of a vitamin bomb. It's more to simplify things than anything, I don't have the time in the morning and frankly eating solid foods first thing makes me ill. Double dose each morning gives 50g and around 400cal. It's a super easy breakfast and quick start to the day.

I mix it with almond milk.

It's pretty ******* vile tbh.

Of course there's lifestyle that comes into it. I'm not anti supplements at all, I used to be really keen on blending my own recovery blends and protein shakes etc... but I have a ravenous appetite (I'm on 3.2-3.5k at the moment) and come 6am, I'm stuffing my face with eggs! :D That said I live in the countryside and one of our neighbours has hens, so I get dozens of fresh eggs every week so it's hard to find an excuse not to eat!

Everyone's different though, and shakes have their place - if it's providing you with the nutrition you need then keep at it!

Who's this small independent British supplement manufacturer you speak of?
