Fortunately I was on my final ‘lighter’ sets of 178kg squats when I walked in with a different stance to usual, missed the left J peg, thought I had it on the second attempt, let go as it then pulled me down to the side. I got off lightly due to the safety bar that caught it with just a minor bump on my head that mostly landed on the muscle at the top of my neck and a slightly sensitive shoulder.

As long as you're OK!

My progress has stalled. I think I've damaged my radial nerve, my tricep just isn't firing at all, I can't really flex it, no pain. Bench has gone from 102.5kg to struggling with 30kg for 5. I think it's one of those things that just takes a long time to heal on its own. In the meantime I'd imagine my tricep will waste away.

I can still squat and deadlift thankfully.

Since hitting around 37 years old (now 40), between lifting an BJJ, it's basically been injury after injury.

I wouldnt blame age for injury. Since kicking back in with my training since 39 (now 41) ive been out of the gym once due to injury where my back just seized up due to over doing things. Other then that, its been plain sailing.

Something like BJJ is going to leave you a lot more battered than just gym work though

It almost certainly happened during BJJ, every injury I have ever had has (and there has been numerous), the gym aggravates it.

Thankfully it doesn't really affect my BJJ, bench pressing/shoulder pressing movements just aren't ever needed.

So after 8 years of constant use the soles of my gym shoes have started to peel away. They are no longer sold by Nike so I need to find something else to replace it with.

I'm looking for a few recommendations on what to get (needs to be available in size 13)

The shoes I have, had no lift in the heel and it had minimal padding so I could squat and deadlift. I'm looking for the same thing, since I can get into a deep squat without assistance (I'm assuming this is the only reason for the lift but if it isn't please let me know) and preferably with a wide toe box.

Tried heavy deads the other day, I can't fully engage my right lat/maybe shoulder, I end up twisted on the way up which rounds my back. Deads are also out for now. Heavy squats yesterday, those I can still do at least. I guess I'll just concentrate on those for now.

If you want flat shoes then anything minimal (I.e. I door football trainers, Converse, those weird TKD shoes, etc.).

Yes, the heel lift is to compensate for a lack of ankle mobility and push squat weight onto quads... so you may well be doing yourself a disservice by not using weightlifting shoes...

In what sense?

Does using them help manage performance drop-offs? Science says "yes;" personal use suggests I feel less bad when doing something for over half an hour.
Sorry, I should have been more specific. Yep, I was thinking of performance/energy tanking. In my case, I generally eat a low-carb/keto level of carbohydrates.
However, one of the potential downsides to keto/low-carb is the excretion of minerals, which very likely explains why I am fatigued quite a lot of the time.
Hence, I am considering either trying a brand formulation of electrolytes, or making up my own.

I found that I would often get a really dry mouth/throat at the gym, regardless of how much water I drank. I've not had that problem since adding an electrolyte tablet to my water bottle.

I add one tablet (cheapest one I could find, Applied Nutrition lemon & lime £2.99 for 20) to 750ml which is plenty for my workout.

Can anyone recommend a powerlifting gym in central London. a mate could join for a couple of weeks while visiting from the states? Will be based in Waterloo for a week and Kensington for a week

I've recently getting a bit more focus back for the gym, I was just doing basic maintenance style training - now I'm focussing very much on improving my BJJ and the basic bits of striking I do at my dojo. It's nice to have a focus again for something rather than just going to the gym to lift weights.

The focus is still very much on S&C. However a lot more grip work and core stability work. Lots more hinging exercises, and explosive movements.

Whilst I quite enjoy picking things up and putting them down, having something to focus on makes a world of difference for me.
I mostly lift to keep a good level of strength as I'm knocking on a bit now at 52, but my main hobby is hard* enduro and I've never known anything so physically exhausting, I should stop falling off it really.

*Well, more tepid/meek enduro at my current ability :D
