No they're not unsung, you only have to ask someone like Zidane (modern great) what he thought of Maka.
I think that the public and fans enjoy seeing players with an end product more, for the average Joe I guess seeing someone put the goal away is more fun then the pass that made it or the tackle that won or started the play.
