THE 50K CHALLENGE: NEW MUSTANG ON THE WAY, BUT WOULD 50K BE BETTER SPENT ON ANOTHER MARQUE?

I miss the days where this was a simple computer hardware forum... where Gibbo was the god of overclocking. I miss a good argument about bus speed.

Anyhow, you have an awesome stripped out track toy. What you need is an awesome daily driver/GT. A mustang would be perfect, but not that interesting in my books. If you’re having doubts about it the only other logical place to look is Italy - the Maserati Granturismo or the Alfa Giulia. The other GT car that no one has mentioned (although age criteria would have to be relaxed) is the Aston DB9. It depends on how much you want to spend on servicing and tinkering with it. Maserati and Aston servicing costs are eye watering.

Whilst I love the F Type, does a 2 seat roadster fit your garage right now? Almost seems too sporty and doesn’t give you the wafting option.

So far the Alfa and the F Type are the only real choices going by God Al... Gibbos criteria.

His very first one states:
  • Brand new or dealer supplied with as new warranty, so a 3yr old Porsche with OPC warranty would be fine
The Astons are the Masser are 5 yrs+ old minimum. And most with around 40k miles! That goes for the GTR too.

If we're not sticking to the brief we're going to have another 10 pages of 'Oooh Gibbo buy a lambo...' etc.

Just shows you 50k doesn't really get you a heck of a lot when you want something awesome.

Edit- I did think about the Alfa but I don't want to be on first name terms with the AA guy. Are they reliable these days?

£50k really doesn't get you much of anything average these days.

Bar the usual main stream brands which top out around the 30-40k mark, the more premium brands happily hit £50k or more for their normal cars. The E350d diesel is up in that bracket for example.

The baseline for mid to higher end performance cars is definitely around the £70k plus range.

Just because im in my new house and am bored

https://www.pistonheads.com/classif...ono-nav-massive-spec-porsche-warranty/7467232 - OPC warrantied Cayman GTS with buckets and PDK. I would go Boxster S because I like putting the top down.

https://www.pistonheads.com/classif...oupe-available-for-immediate-delivery/7612768 - Brand new Audi TT RS.

Having driven both I would take the Cayman and twice at the weekend. TTRS is quick and better than the other one, but GTS I felt exceptional.

I would rather go 997.2 C2S/C4S over Cayman/Boxster... it's more fun. I'm wishing I had over 981.1 Boxster S... it's a great car and in many ways technically superior to the 987.2... but the 911 is more fun...

Cayman/Boxster has technically better balance... but the weight distribution and extra power of the 3.8l makes a big difference... seeing as you can warranty them til they're 15 years old now, it's low risk.
