Does anyone know if you can pre order using a debit card? I've been told you need to use a credit card so Apple can "hold" the amount.

I think, and my logic may be wrong (first time for everything), but the 16gb will be the most popular, as it's the cheapest, and thus the one pre-ordered the most. Hopefully since I plan on getting the 32gb version I will have more chance of getting it on release day.
There could potentially be people not getting their iPads on the 28th due to demand. Apparently, due to US demands and anyone not American not counting, there will be 12 of each model available for pre-order in the whole of the UK except for the 16gb WiFi version as Brian from the Milton Keynes store has already bought one.

think I will be getting the 32gb 3g, I am up at 7am for work tomorrow, so will be checking the apple website to see what the deal is

Totally depends what you intend to use it for.
Currently I'm only using 2.5GB on a 8GB Iphone and I have no doubt 16GB is more than enough for an Ipad.
