why does your steel orb button stick outside the taskbar?

If you check the box to use small icons in the taskbar the windows button is larger than the taskbar

I don't know, but the original windows button used to stick out aswell, wether its position at the top or bottom, doesn't make a difference.

The 'use small icons' button is ticked, not sure whats going on?
