*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

The Apple Store I worked in for iPad launch ran out of certain models by about 3pm. Only a few remained.

Manchester Arndale still had stock the day(Saturday) after. It was the top end one, but thats what I wanted anyway. I just walked in bought 2, got home and cancelled the order. Was pretty manic though.

Link to tesco prices please i dident think they had been announced yet

I asked about it re: the current iPhone, not 4 :p

I guess nobody could be certain about 4 since t's not out yet?

N900 snip

No way I could live with a resistive screen after going from my Nokia 5800 to a 3GS. It's just nowhere near as comfortable to use the internet with. I have to admit though - the rest of it wouldn't actually bother me that much.

There do seem to be quite a few around unfortunately, but at least they aren't quite as vehement as certain other members when they get going. Still can't work out why anyone gets so worked up about pieces of equipment though...

All I would like is a forum where we can compare phones properly, without crap like was posted in those threads that were linked above. I mean it's been said that the iPhone is expensive compared to other phones what... 1594984239090235 times? WE GET IT! :p

I'm quite lucky. Our O2 store recently got refurbished with proper phones on display so you can have a play with them without being pestered. They aren't even in those stupid cradles that seem to be in all the other O2 stores, they are attached by the wire things so you can actually move them around, put them to your ear etc. :D

Our Orange store is a cupboard - so there are a few dummy phones but you need to ask to get your hands on the "real deal".

I disagree there. If that is the case then you should never compare Symbian, Winmo and WebOS either. They are all very different OSs and work very different ways. You can obviously compare them. Some are better than others at certain things. Design wise it's essentially exactly the same as all the other touchscreens to come out in the last couple of years too.

Yes but define "better" - what might work for one person probably won't work for another. You cannot simply blanket state "This is better than that" when it comes to different OSes as people all have different preferences. For example, I might dislike Android - it doesn't make it necessarily any worse though as it would be mostly down to personal preference.

The main way people say that one phone is better/worse than another is through reliability and build quality, as nobody wants a phone that breaks a lot.

Personally for a features point of view WinMo wins out. It's pretty much got everything you will ever need, however it isn't the fastest or easiest OS to navigate with a touchscreen. iOS is very fluid and even but just too closed natured (not really missing much important out any more) and boring. Android seems to be the best of the bunch ish at the moment as it seems to combine the most of the features and customisability* of WinMo with the speed and eas of touchscreen naviagtion of iOS.

Being "closed" isn't as bad as everyone makes out. I certainly like it how the App Store software all... works! And whilst Apple do tend to claim they came up with features that have been in phones for a while, they also tend to polish what the iPhone has to an absolute mirror shine - which is what I love about the device.

What would be awesome is if you could hire a phone for a couple of days for instance for a small fee. That way you get a real feel for a phone, rather than standing in a store for a couple of minutes.
One reason why I would get an iphone (which I won't) is because everyone else has one - seems strange, but when everyone else has one (mates etc who don't know any better) you can all use the same games/apps etc.

Orange did something like that IIRC, cost them a lot of money for little gain and it was scrapped.

That's the problem a lot of people have with the iPhone 4 there, sure it has a bunch of improved stuff over the 3GS but OS wise it still looks exactly the same and works the same. Some people don't want a screen that looks like it did in 2007.

Maemo certainly draws a lot of inspiration from Symbian, but people don't complain about that! :p

And at the end of the day, i'm all about functionality over form. I don't mind how something looks, I just prefer that it works. Having had some right hum-dingers of phones before, I just prefer it when stuff functions correctly. I'm not saying that Android doesn't work, i'm sure it does - but the iOS is fantastically stable.

I said it in another thread, those who are not already smitten by the iPhone see little to get excited about as it's mostly playing catch-up with the android devices most people have been buying this past year.

I've explained above why you cannot simply claim this.

The end of the Engadget review sums it up about right I think, the iPhone4 is about the best 'smartphone' out at the moment. It will suit most people, most of the time.

And conversely, this is wrong as well. Engadget are just trying to score points with Apple.

I would say that if you have money and want the best, it's down to the Desire/iP4 at the very top of the tree, neck and neck. There is no "correct" choice - all I would suggest is that a prospective buyer tries both and goes from there. As Robbo said, there's also the Galaxy S to consider as well.

And... breathe. :p

That pic looks not right.

Haha... thank-you Yoda. ;)

But seriously, it's all legit. Have a look at the MacRumours thread. It's easy to jump on the "it must be fake!" bandwagon, but in reality, it's only a day before release. It's not that surprising that a number of people might have received theirs early.

Well my order still hasnt shipped but the Cancel Order has greyed out - so expecting it on Friday which would be perfect.

Quick question - how do I wipe a PC and retain my iTunes and therefore my iPhone backup?

ps3ud0

Just got a phone call from my local Orange store where I had my 32GB preordered at.

They got far less than their allocated stock in, only 7 16GB's and 1 32GB, so as a result they're cancelling all preorders and making it first come first served.

I had originally planned to be outside queueing around 5:30-6am, but I may make it even earlier now!

Haha I was thinking Yoda :p

Yeah - the guy has posted more pictures of it - I'd say it's pretty real...

The apple logo on the phone is the logo it shows when you turn it on - just to clarify, incase some of you thought it had a giant Apple logo on the back :p

What version of Windows are you running? The iPhone backup file is stored in different locations depending on the OS.

Have a look in %APPDATA%\Apple Computer\ - the folder you're looking for is MobileSync.

Edit:

XP: C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Vista/7: C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

Are the tesco iPhones simfree?

Edit: They're locked and will not unlock until 12months
